Jacqueline Parkhurst Obituary

Jacqueline Trullinger Parkhurst

Beloved wife, mother, grand- mother and friend. Died Tuesday, December 2nd 2014 with her family by her side. Born to Rae and Truman Trullinger in Olympia, WA on June 11th 1930. A graduate of Olympia High School and the University of Washington where she enjoyed a lifelong affiliation with the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She married Walter Parkhurst on June 28th, 1952, they were married for 61 years until his death in April, 2013. Jackie taught in the Shoreline School District for 20 years as a substitute teacher and spent many years as a volunteer with the Children's Hospital Orthopedic Guild and SPL Friends of the Library. She and Walt enjoyed spending time in Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas and Palm Desert but the great joy of her life was her family, which she loved wholeheartedly.

Surviving family includes daughters Susan Benyak (Lori) and Mary K. Parkhurst; son John Parkhurst (Kristina); grandsons Neal Benyak, Joseph Benyak, Jack Parkhurst; and grand-daughter Abigail Parkhurst, all of the Seattle area. She was predeceased by their oldest son Drew Parkhurst.

A celebration of her life will be held at Ida Culver House, Broadview, 12501 Greenwood Ave North on Thursday, December 11th, 2014 from 1-3:30 pm. Remembrances can be made to Seattle Children's Hospital, Salvation Army, or the Humane Society (because she never met a dog that she didn't like).

Jackie was always good and kind to me even though we lived at opposite ends of town. Even though her father was Mayor of Olympia, she was one of us. I'll miss seeing her at future OHS events. Mary M. Zinck McFarland

I am so sorry to learn of Jackie's passing. She was a noble lady and a strong advocate for doing the just, decent thing.

I have particularly fond memories of her standing at the roadside at the bottom of the Parkhursts'long, snow-covered driveway as we careened heedlessly down the hill on the old toboggan. She'd watch for cars and shout when it was time to fall off into the snow. Then she handed out hot chocolate. It's one of my favorite winter memories.

John, Sue and Mary K. -

So sorry to hear of Jackie's passing. She was a warm, lively lady with a great sense of humor who treated everyone - child and adult - with respect and empathy. Also the best d**n cook there was. So glad that we got to see her in August. She still had the same spark and twinkle as always, despite the physical inconveniences of time. She will be missed, but always remembered. So sorry for your loss.

I am saddened to learn that Jackie has passed. My sympathy goes out to all her family.
Jackie and I were in the same group that graduated from OHS in 1948. I have memories of great times at the Trullinger cabin on Eld Inlet among many other fun times. We lost track of each other in the ensuing years although saw each other at a few class reunions. I always enjoyed
her upbeat outlook.
I know you will have many memories to share among yourselves and to bring you comfort.

jackie was a wonderful, womderful woman. Warm, loving, smart, positive: a joy to know. I was honored by her friendship and shared grandchildren with her. As she said after her yongest gradnchildn, Abigail, was born: "Aren't we just the luckiest women." Those of us who knew and loved her were very lucky.
