Janice Deeds Obituary

Janice Annette Deeds

Beloved Jan passed away peacefully April 2nd while holding her daughter's hand.

Jan was born in Bremerton Wa. on May 25, 1939, growing up in East Bremerton and living on Kitsap Lake. Jan attended Bremerton High School and graduated a year early in 1956. Her first job was as a car hop at Grahams Drive In. She worked in an accounting office in Bremerton and at Sea Tac airport.

After her wonderful daughter Ledene (Dena) was born, and her divorce from Edward Deeds, she embarked on a career at the Bethlehem Steel plant in West Seattle WA.

Starting in the payroll dept., she next moved to the benefits dept., where this put her in contact with every single employee at the plant. About 1200 union and non union employees. At this time she also wrote the Bethlehem news letter. She moved to employee relations, labor relations, and finally becoming one of the first females to go thru Bethlehem's management program and culminating with her becoming the first female Assistant supt. in Bethlehem's history.

Following the closure of the Seattle Plant, Jan wanted to do something different, so she started working with a realtor to clean houses to get ready for sale. Before long this progressed to painting and yard clean up. Soon she was running a crew. This endeavor lasted about a year and then she found what she was born to do.

She was the first rookie realtor hired by Cayce & Gain Real Estate Co. Finally free to apply her ambition, people skills, and work ethic for herself, she quickly rose to the top in the real estate community. Becoming top seller, top lister, and top realtor for many years. Many of her hundreds of customers becoming close friends.

In the midst of her career accomplishments, she put her daughter through college and obtained a B.A. and Masters degree herself from The University Of Puget Sound.

She enjoyed spending ten winters golfing and enjoying the arts in Palm Desert, CA.

Preceded in death by parents Al and Phyllis Haggbloom of Bremerton.

Survivors are Ronald Mandt her life partner of 35 years, brother Robert Haggbloom of Mesa Arizona, niece Tracie Lemke and her children Nicole and Jacob of Lake Tapps Wa., nephew Scott Haggbloom of Tacoma Wa.,uncle Oscar (Lyn) Haggbloom of Ballard Wa., Daughter Ledene (Dena) Sandell and 4 grandchildren, Samuel, Rachel, Anna, and Matthew Sandell of Allyn Wa.

A celebration of her life will be held at The Kitsap Golf and Country Club, Bremerton Wa on Sunday, May 3rd from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Remembrances can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 911 West 5th Ave, Spokane, Wa 99204

Jan was the best realtor that we found. She helped us find a house, steering us to the one that would hold it's value (must have a sidewalk)! She was bright, kind, and smart, and good at deals. I loved getting a holiday card from her every year.....they are missed---and she is missed. How sad to read this. I wish I knew her history before now....I had no idea she worked as a sup. at Bethlehem Steel!

Oh my, how sad I feel. Jan helped me sell my little house in West Seattle. She helped me through the search and final purchase of a new, bigger house for me and my aging mother. She handled the transaction with courtesy and understanding. My mother loved her. She negotiated an agreement that was beneficial to both sellers and buyers.

She was a kind, smart lady with great integrity. I know how much you will miss her.
