Diane Stevens died peacefully at her son's home in Southern California on March 30, 2013 at the age of 74.
Diane was born in San Francisco in 1939, the daughter of Marie Margi Stevens and James (Jim) Stevens, and the granddaughter of Italian immigrants, Sebastiano and Paolina Margi. She grew up in the Potrero District of San Francisco, and attended Daniel Webster Grammar School and Polytechnic High School. A few years after graduation, she married her high-school sweetheart, George Loizos, also a Poly High Graduate, and, in 1963, they became the proud parents, of their son, Stephen (Steve) Loizos. Diane and George eventually divorced, and Diane and her son moved to the East Bay to live closer to her mother. She remained in the East Bay for the final 40 plus years of her life settling first in Albany and later in Kensington.
Diane is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Nina Loizos, her brother and sister-in law, Gene and Gayle Stevens, her nephews, Tony & Chris Stevens, her Aunt Delphine (Del) Langley, and her cousins, Mark Langley, Bobbie, Tony & Justine Blevins, Bill Klatt, and Lance Klatt.
Diane worked for Calif. State Auto Association (AAA) for approximately 25 years. She began her career at CSAA in Berkeley, and later transferred to the main office in San Francisco seeking an opportunity to become a Travel Agent for AAA. Diane worked in both the San Francisco and Greenbrae AAA Travel Agencies. Following her retirement from AAA, she decided to enter the workforce again, and applied for a job at Berkeley Northside Travel. She worked there for several years assisting the travel agency staff and clients.
Diane was artistic, passionate, and impatient with mediocrity; a comedienne with great comedic timing. She was vulnerable and intuitive, with an innate connection to music - especially jazz. She was always searching for creative expression...acting classes, belly dancing, gourmet cooking, tap dancing, ukulele playing, sketching.
We will miss you greatly, Diane, and we will never forget you! You were unique, complex, fascinating and "one of a kind."
