Kenneth Rada Obituary

Kenneth D. Rada Passed away on February 11, 2011 in Tucson, AZ from complications of COPD at the age of 80 years. Born September 9, 1930 in Bee, Nebraska, preceded in death by parents James Rada and Tillie Vrana Rada, brothers George and Shimmel and sister Phyllis. Survived by wife Lois; children Susan Halstead (Frank), Patrick Rada (Linda), Karen Morgan, Steve Rada, Robert Rada (Kelli), eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, sister-in-law Judy Rada, Catherine Rada, nieces, nephews and many Vrana cousins in Nebraska. After honorably serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he returned to the Bay Area in 1954 and was a resident of San Mateo for 35 years. During these years he was a scout master with the Cub Scouts, volunteer with the 4-H Club, and loved country music and square dancing. A diehard Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and long-time 49er season ticket holder, he especially enjoyed the motor home tailgate parties with his friends. On his retirement, he moved to Tucson in 1996. Being an avid golfer, his home at Saddlebrooke was a perfect setting because there were four golf courses in the community. He was one of the founding members of the Catalina, AZ Elk's Lodge, helping to build the Lodge's first club house, attending all functions, especially the Wednesday night potluck dinners. Ken was a proud member of Plumber's Union Local No. 467 of San Mateo County for 47 years. We would like to thank the staff at Kanmar Hospice for their commitment to caring for our father on his final journey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made In Memory of Kenneth Rada to Kanmar Hospice, 770 West Kanmar Place, Tucson, AZ 85704. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Skylawn Memorial Park located off Highway 92 in San Mateo.
