Patricia Mavis Moffitt Mehlinger Nov 13, 1922 - Nov 6, 2010 Pat was proud to be a fourth generation San Franciscan. She graduated from Lowell High School and the California School of Fine Arts where she was awarded the prestigious Phelan Scholarship, which recognizes the achievements of California-born-artists. During World War II she worked at Bethlehem Steel as a draftsman, working particularly on the degaussing of ships. Pat married Capt. Walter E. (Rusty) Mehlinger in San Francisco, in 1946 and they moved to Chicago where Rusty attended graduate school at the University of Chicago and Pat worked with Enrico Fermi as a draftsman working on the cyclotron. After Rustys graduation, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they had a daughter, Lynn. Their military family then traveled to Virginia, Rhode Island, Germany, Pennsylvania, back to Virginia, Alabama, and finally settled back in San Francisco. Pat continued to paint throughout her life, painting beautiful portraits of friends and family. She loved animals including her own pets, as well as several wild blue jays, raccoons and skunks, which often visited her home on Twin Peaks! Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rusty, her sister Paula Seaton and her parents Edward Raymond and Honorah Alice Moffitt. She is survived by her loving daughter Lynn Oakley and son-in-law Roy; her grandson Capt. Thomas Oakley and his wife Angela; two beautiful great-grandchildren, Genevieve and Thomas; nieces Jessica Seaton (Keith Wilson), Elizabeth Seaton (Jake Fry) and nephew Timothy Seaton; great nieces Maud Wilson and Kate Frye and great nephew Theo Wilson; cousins James Winkler, Cully White and Nini White and many dear friends who will all miss her dearly. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the San Francisco SPCA, Hospice by the Bay or Villa Sinfonia Foundation. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 22 at 10am at the Presidio Main Post Chapel, Building 130, Fisher Loop, followed by a private burial in the National Cemetery.
