Margaret Furman Obituary

Margaret Choi Furman Born February 13, 1950, died peacefully at home on Saturday, June 10, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her passing is a great loss to all who knew her, as her generosity, creativity, kindness, and love of life inspired many. Married to Cy Furman in 1983, Margaret helped create their successful business Magic Design /Visual Dynamics. She combined her love of dance and young people by founding the Flying Angels Dance Company with the mission to teach dance as a way to gain self esteem and share appreciation for Asian arts in the San Francisco Bay Area. A student of Theravada meditation master and healer Rina Sircar since 1978, Margaret shared her strong spiritual faith through her continuous support of retreats and religious festivals held at the Taungpulu Kaba-Aye Monastery in Boulder Creek and in San Francisco. Devoted to family and friends, Margaret was a shining example of the life well-lived. Margaret is survived by her husband, Cy Furman; her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, Kim, Garrett, and Kaylie Quon; her mother Betty Choi; her sister, brother-in-law and nephew, Shirley, Russell, and David Warner; her brother Gordon Choi; and her many students and friends, too numerous to mention. There will be a viewing Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 4:00 to 9:00 pm with a service to follow on Friday, June 17, 2011, 12:30 pm at Duggans Serra Mortuary.

Dear Cy, Kim, and Family: Margaret was an inspiration to me in my personal and dance life. She played a pivotal role in my life and was the most gracious, creative, and generous person I know. Her kindness and passion for her culture will always be remembered by everyone she touched in the community. We will miss her dearly.
