Allan Detrick Obituary

Allan Bowie Detrick Sr. Sept. 8, 1929 - Oct. 23, 2010 Son of Charles Bowie Detrick and Ruth Massard Detrick. He was born and raised in San Francisco, CA, graduated from Polytechnic High School, attended USF, a US Marine Corps September 9, 1946 - August 10, 1948, worked as a meat cutter and retired in 1994. Allan met the love of his life, Marianne Topolos in high school and they were married in 1948 while in the Marine Corps. In 1954, they made South San Francisco their home for the next 50 years where they raised their 4 children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tennis and water skiing. He was a well known meat cutter in many of the finer meat markets in San Francisco from 1950 until he retired. He spent most of his time with his children, grand children and great grand children during his 16 years of retirement and he valued his family more than any treasure in life. In his later years his favorite pastime was to walk around several of the northern California lakes and watch the wild life, especially the ducks. He became a duck collector and had several hundred ducks in his collection at its peak He was widowed in 2005 and his health started to decline with lymphoma cancer that he beat in 2006. In 2007, he moved to Elk Grove to be closer to his family that had relocated to Elk Grove and the greater Sacramento Region. He resided at Sunrise Assisted Living from 2007 - 2009 and The Commons Assisted Living as his final home in Elk Grove from 2009-2010. He is survived by his sister Mary Helen Hildebrandt, brothers Shell & Barbara Detrick, Chuck & Carole Detrick, daughter Dianne Detrick (former son-in-law Zeppy Martinez), sons Allan Detrick & Ricci Stephenson (former daughter-in-law Sue Hubbard Detrick), James Detrick (former daughter-in-law Suzie Detrick), Steve Detrick & wife Jan Detrick, (former daughter-in law Stella Augustyn McCloskey), grand children Scott Graham, Brian & Tracy Detrick Fortner, Aaron Detrick, Steven & Christina Detrick, Stephanie Martinez, Danny Martinez, Brian Detrick, Nick Detrick and great grand children Gabriella, Chloe, Izik, Olivia and Tristan. Memorial Service: Tuesday, November 9th at 11:00 am are the formal services at Herberger's Elk Grove Funeral Chapel located at 9101 Elk Grove Blvd, CA 95624 Burial Service: Wednesday, November 10th 11:00 am we will have the burial at St. Mary's Cemetery located at 4529 Howe Street, Oakland CA 94611. This date was selected because it is the Marine Corps Birthday. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in Allan's name.

Steve and family,
So very sorry for your loss. There will be many days when it will quickly flash through your mind...gotta run by and see Dad, as was your regular routine. But God had a better plan, so he put his arms around him and whispered, "come to me". Remember all the fun times, the laughs, the big smile when you walked in....all those wonderful memories.
