Twila Lackey

Twila Finley Lackey Passed away Friday, November 19, 2010 at her home in Oakmont, Santa Rosa after a short illness, at 86 years of age. She was born in Osgood, Missouri December 11, 1923. Twila was the youngest member of a large, distinguished and talented family, particularly in the music world. Her brother, Edgar Jones, was a well-known baritone singer who taught voice at Mills College in Oakland. Edgar sang on several occasions with the San Francisco Symphony, and was well known among his peers in the music world as a "singer's singer". Another brother, Don Jones, was a gifted pianist, and accompanied many well-known singers. Twila's sister, Amber Duckworth, was a senior salesperson for Brueners Furniture Company for many years. Twila's oldest brother, Wood Jones, was a foreman from the beginning of the Northrup Aircraft Company, until his retirement. Twila's nephew, Alvin Duckworth, was the owner of Oaks Realty in Albany. Twila is survived by her stepson, William Roy Lackey, his wife, Laura, and her son, Armond. Twila worked for many years for the legal firm of Wesley, Sizoo & Moore as a paralegal secretary. She was well respected there for the volume of work she could complete, and for her good judgment in assisting in solving legal problems. Although Twila was not a musician herself, she particularly enjoyed classical music, and was always a good judge of a singer's proficiency and talent. She was also an avid crossword puzzle aficionado. Twila particularly enjoyed spending the majority of each day with her stock market avocation, and was quite successful with her investments. Friends and acquaintances are cordially invited to attend funeral services Monday, November 29 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jade Room of Sunset View Mortuary, top of Fairmount Avenue, El Cerrito; interment, Sunset View Cemetery.
