As an 11 year old I was lucky enough to see Stan play for the Indianapolis Indians back in 1959.

A great ball player and a crowd favorite.

I'm emailing from Canada and want to say that I remember Stan very well from the time he spent in the Pacific Coast League, especially that great year he had playing at San Diego in 1960. (.330). Stan Johnson was definitely one of my Baseball Card Heroes.

A great man. Humble, dignified, filled with a quiet strength most of us will never have. Carried himself without wasted movement or word. Taught me much about life, respect, dignity and how to handle life's unexpected turns. A man from a bygone era, whose sage wisdom will be missed. I worked with Stan for many years at "Big Brown" in "The Daly City Center." I was young and very full of myself, Stan quietly helped me see the word as it really is and not what I thought it to be. I will be forever greatfull. Grand Avenue was never the same when he retired. Thinking back I can still see Stan on Friday nights heading home to Ms Jackie with a large tray of eggs and an even larger smile. My best to his family and a last thanks to a real gentleman.
