Bobo Faulkner Obituary

Bobo Faulkner

January 2, 1941 - December 14, 2014

After a brief but brave ten-month battle, Bobo succumbed to cancer in her native England. She leaves behind daughter Sasha, son-in-law Jim, grandchildren Quinn, Eliza and Jamie, sisters Audrey and Rosemary, brother Michael, step-children Nicki, Phillip and their families, as well as a world of friends who loved and cherished her. To the very end, her positive nature, beauty and grace, were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Bobo's fascinating life unfolded across three continents. Born in Dorset, England, she grew up the daughter of an headmaster for a boy's grammar school where she spent much of her childhood. Forced to leave school at 15, she began her professional career as a secretary for a prestigious London firm. After a brief marriage to British actor Trader Faulkner, and the birth of her daughter, a lucky break provided the opportunity for a modeling job in Australia. This heralded the start of an industrious 10-year career as a model, TV personality, newspaper columnist, and general celebrity.
In Sydney, Bobo met and married businessman Ralph Rosenblum and in 1978, the couple moved back to England. She left behind her illustrious television career but decided to expand her education by enrolling in a Cambridge University writing course at which she excelled. In 1982, the couple immigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area where they created a chain of successful retail and interior design stores, Vogue Interiors, for which Bobo was the spokesperson. Forever reinventing herself, she became a talented interior designer and businesswoman in her own right until deciding to return to her native England in 2004. She settled in the village of Grayswood where she found peace and love with husband Mike Brown and a community of neighbors and friends. After her husband's untimely death in 2007, Bobo courageously took herself back to school, and at the mature age of 70, once again proved herself by receiving a distinction in a two-year counseling course at Guilford University.
Bobo was a great beauty both inside and out, and endeared herself to all that had the privilege of knowing her. An icon of style and a woman of substance, she had many shades and variations to her. She was an enigmatic spirit, intelligent, generous and caring, with a wicked sense of humor and an astounding creative talent. Although her passing leaves a void in the lives of all that loved her, we are thankful to have an abundance of memories from which to draw and help fill the absence she leaves behind.

I've spent a few days re-reading the hundreds of emails and letters we exchanged between 1997 and 2014 and counting myself damn lucky to have known her. And I bless her always for her love and devotion to my wellbeing often at the expense of her own.

Her last email was November 4th, telling me that she was unable to come to Australia on a planned visit because of her chemo schedule - but it would end in a month and she anticipated being in SF for Christmas. She described her situation as being “a right buggerance”. Always down to earth!

Mi corazón, wherever you are, you will not be forgotten by those who have not yet made your journey. To live in hearts you leave behind is not to die.

With Bobo's passing, a bright light has gone out of this world. She was a member of the board of directors of the British Benevolent Society in San Francisco, striving to help others less fortunate. I trust you will meet your dear friend (and mine) John Yates in heaven, Bobo. Your grace, charm and friendship will be missed by your many Friends in the Bay area.
