Charlotte McCloskey Obituary

Charlotte Menend McCloskey Feb. 6, 1933 - Oct. 10, 2010 Charlotte made her eternal journey on Oct. 10, 2010. Charlotte cherished life, beauty and people. Her greatest treasures were her many friends and beloved family, especially the youngest ones - her grandchildren, grandnephew and grandniece. San Francisco, Hillsborough and Lake Tahoe truly held Charlotte's heart. She was raised in San Francisco with her accomplished sister Beverly. After graduating from George Washington High School, Charlotte went on to Cal where she met her husband, Kenneth, while building a homecoming float. As newlyweds Char and Ken were stationed in Honolulu where Ken served in the Navy, Char began her teaching career and daughter Kendy was born. The young family relocated and purchased their first home in Daly City. While Ken completed his studies at Hastings law school, Char taught and served as pianist at the Methodist church. Longing to move out of the fog when Ken graduated, they drove south on Skyline, found sunny Hillsborough, and have been deeply rooted in the community ever since. Daughter Kelly was born in 1963 and Charlotte became very active in the schools and community service. She served in a wide variety of ways from room mother to Parent Group President, Co-Chair of the Hillsborough Concours D'Elegance, Poplar Center Haunted House Chair, Filoli docent, and enjoyed Garden and Book Clubs. When her girls were launched, Charlotte returned to teaching, as an aide with her favorite age group - kindergartners, at North Hillsborough School. Bridge became a passion, and Charlotte's competitive side flourished. She enjoyed winning, but even more, she savored afternoons of cards and conversation with friends she loved. Charlotte's gifts of hospitality, generosity, humor and joie de vive will not only be remembered fondly, but are now inextricable woven into the lives of those who knew her. Charlotte is survived by her husband Kenneth of fifty-five years, her sister Beverly and her husband Allan Sebanc of Hillsborough; her daughters and their husbands Kendy and Tyler Easley of Washington; Kelly McCloskey and Ray Polito of Wyoming; and grandchildren Maxwell Polito, Madelyn and Mason Easley; niece Stacey S. Dobos and husband Theodore Dobos, grandnephew Teddy and grandniece Spencer, of Hillsborough; her brother-in-law Rodger McCloskey, his wife Linda, of Honolulu, nephew Mark and wife Kerri, of Colorado, grandniece Morgan and niece Merry Kay Kiyan, and husband Brent, of Hawaii and grandnephews Tristan and Zachary. A celebration of life will be held on Friday October 29, 2010 at 2pm, First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame, 1500 Easton Drive, Burlingame. Charlotte generously contributed to multiple charities, especially those benefitting children. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to your favorite charity.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Charlotte while we were both volunteering in Norma Hillman's kindergarten classroom. We've been out of touch for years, but I remember the fun and stories that we shared. My thoughts and prayers are with your entire family.
