DR. DAVID DERUS

Dr. David Derus Resident of San Francisco Age 81. Born 3/10/1931 - Died 7/27/2012 Born in 1931 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Attended college at the Salvatorian St. Nazianz Seminary where he received his under- graduate degree. He obtained his PHD in English Literature at Yale University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 -1955. Dr. Derus taught English at, the University of Illinois at the Urbane-Champaign campus for six years. After leaving there he moved to San Francisco and became Professor of English Literature at the University of San Francisco from 1966 to 1992. Dr. Derus was a published poet including works touching on his youth in Wisconsin. Member of St. Brendan Church, San Francisco. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Ruth Derus and sister Lorena (Robert) Hooyman of Minnetonka and by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by Brothers Leonard Derus, Robert Derus and Dr. Gerald Derus. Sisters, Sister Jean Derus, OP and Nathalie Kehoe, Parents Joseph and Gertrude (Biese) Derus of Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Donations can be made to the University of San Francisco in his name. Family and friends may visit at St. Brendan Church, 29 Rockaway Ave. at Ulloa St. Wednesday August 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM where the Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM. Private committal in Holy Cross Cemetery.
