George Angle Obituary

George Luckett Angle Died on June 13, 2011 after having a stroke in Henderson, Nevada. George is survived by seven of his eight children, William Angle, Donald Angle, Annie Summers, Elizabeth Angle, Jordan Angle, Evan Angle, and Jennie Angle; his two ex wives, Jean Angle and Kristine Kelley; his five grandchildren, Dwight Angle, Lonnie Angle, Tucker Summers, Mariah Sawyer, and Jake Angle; his two sisters, Ann Wilson and Carolyn Hogan; his nieces and nephews, Jan Booth, John Booth, Jane Booth, Tucker Bridwell, and Lynn Jennings; companion Lolly Herman; and many friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Alice Sawyer. George was born May 30, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri to William and Jane (Jennie) Angle. He joined the Navy at 17 and did his tour of duty in World War II in the Philippines. After the war, George completed his education at Northwestern University where he met and married Jean Fleming. Jean and George moved to Southern California in the early fifties where they raised their five children. In 1955, George founded the Fluorocarbon Company which changed its name to Furon in 1989. Furon began in George's garage and grew to become a company with over $500 million in annual sales, around 3000 employees, and a listing on the NYSE. Furon also became the world's largest fabricator of Teflon, making industrial parts for a myriad of customers including NASA. In 1978, George married Kristine Kelley and moved to Marin County where they settled in Ross in 1983 to raise their three children. George was semi-retired for a time but soon became involved with his new companies, Willard Marine, Protecto, Wide One, and Tankinetics. George loved his children, traveling (especially to Hawaii and France), skiing, biking, boating, beaches, frisbees, reading, hot tubs, Lake Tahoe, opera, his Mid Western childhood, talking on the phone, good dinners, good wines, and good conversations with his friends and family. George could fix anything and loved any school project that he could "help" the kids build. He had a wonderful ability to keep friends in his life, including his two ex wives. He will be greatly missed. We will be having a Memorial for family and friends at the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 3pm.
