I did not know Gil, but I know that he was very loved and cherished by his brother, Tony. My prayers are with the family.

As you all know I have known Gil all my life, from family functions to spending summers at the cabin. I haven't seen him since my wedding 23? years ago, but I have thought about him lately, since I heard he was sick.
My memories are always about a guy with a smile on his face, a great laugh, and a great sense of humor. In all the years we spent together mostly at the cabin, I considered him a second father to me. I never had a problem with Gil- ever- that I can remember.[he never called me a mute or anything] I regret not seeing him before he passed but as they say, you can't look back.
All of our hearts go out to Sue, Phil, Robin, Tyler, and their respective families at this dfficult time. Now I believe I'll have a pint of guinnes and shot of Jamesons in honor of my uncle Gils life.
Love to all,

I was one of Gil’s first students when he joined the Chabot College faculty. At that time Chabot was located in San Leandro. Gil was one of the instructors who encouraged me to become a teacher. Thanks to him I spent 32 great years as a business teacher in the Newark School District. I was saddened to hear of the passing of this gentle, kind, and patient man. In all of our lives there a special people who are positive influences—Gil Ribera will always be one of those special people in my life.

Gil was a great guy who grew up next door to me. Although we didn't keep up with each other, I have many memories of our youth including the fact that we used to trade shoes because he preferred mine and I preferred his!
