We learned of the passing of Mr. Freeman from our daughter. She is spending her Junior college year sudying language and culture in Kyoto, Japan. If it were not for the generosity of the Freeman family and Foundation she would not have had this experience. Our heartfelt sympathies and grateful appreciation.

I am sure that I speak for the Rikkyo University (Tokyo, Japan) community in expressing my deepest condolences to the Freeman family for their loss. The Freeman Foundation generously supported American students coming to our university for a year abroad in the hopes of creating a better understanding among Japanese and Americans.

I send all of the Freeman family my condolences on the loss of such an inspirational leader in the field of education. So many teachers and others have benefited from the generosity of the Freeman Foundation and I know the work of all of those touched by the many programs organized in the Foundations name will continue to teach about East and Southeast Asia for years to come in Mr. Freeman's memory.
