Jean Thorn Obituary

Jean Meyer Thorn Jan. 1, 1923 to Oct. 27, 2010 Jean passed away peacefully at home after a long illness. She was a 3rd generation San Franciscan, a graduate of the Sarah Dix Hamlin School and Stanford University, where she earned a Bachelors degree in History. Jean was most eclectic in her tastes and interests. She was an avid football fan and was a 49ers 50 yard line season ticket holder for more than fifty years. She also rarely missed a Stanford game. She was passionate about opera, and was a supporter and season ticket holder of the San Francisco Opera, which she had attended since childhood. She adored traveling the world with her husband and chronicled their trips with outstanding photographs. She loved history and art, enthusiastically enjoyed food and was a voracious reader. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Francis; her daughters, Joyce Thorn and Anne Lerch (Allan), and her grandchildren, Alexis Nordby (Jason) and Andrew Lerch. Private services were held on Monday, November 1st. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neuropathy Association or the San Francisco Opera.
