Jeffrey Pearl Obituary

Jeffrey Pearl, MD

Jeffrey Pearl, MD 1944 – 2017 passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Jeffrey was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, doctor, and friend. Jeff grew up in San Francisco and was a true San Franciscan at heart even though he settled with his family in Marin. Jeff attended Washington High School and the University of California, Berkeley and played on the golf team at both. He earned his Medical Degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine (where he met his beloved Anne) followed by a Surgical Internship and Residency at the University of California, San Diego. Jeff brought his wife Anne and daughter Laura to Marin in 1978 to join his father Milton Pearl in private practice. They practiced together for 13 years before Jeff joined the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco. While at UCSF, Jeff was a huge advocate for Mt. Zion Hospital, making sure patient care remained superb. Jeff truly enjoyed his friends, travel, listening to music, reading and learning, and cooking. After being diagnosed with PSP in 2010, Jeff found a new community within the Parkinsons Dance Project. He never once complained about his diagnosis or related discomforts. At his core, Jeff was deeply in love with Anne and truly loved his daughter Laura, son in law David, and his grandchildren Danny and Lindsey. Jeff is survived by daughter Laura Shapiro, son in law David Shapiro, grandchildren Danny and Lindsey Shapiro, brother Louis Pearl (Jetty Swart), and sister Linda Pearl Pruzan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Jeff's name be made to: Parkinson's Dance Project, c/o Marin Dance Theatre, 1 St. Vincent Drive
San Rafael, CA 94903.

What a shame! I think I was one of his last hernia surgeries at Mt. Zion in 2003.
Ya did good Doc!

I Just found this. Dr. Pearl attended to me as surgeon back in 1992. I will never forget how caring he was. I have a recurrence of a similar concern and just went on line to see if I could find him again. I am SO sorry to learn of his passing. He was so smart, curios, not arrogant. And he was so empathetic. he called me on a Saturday and had asked the pathology department to quickly read my labs. He was happy to report a benign situation. But he didn't have to do that. he was just that kind of person. I true gift to the world. I just want the family to know how amazing he was - that he would be so memorable to me after 28 years. Gwen

I worked with Dr. Pearl at UCSF in the early 2000s. I loved every opportunity I got to be with him! He was funny and kind and genuinely enjoyed working with staff. Please know that he had a big impact on me and many staff at UCSF. Much love to your family.
