Muriel Liftin Obituary

Muriel ("Marti") Liftin Dec. 2, 1926 - Oct. 16, 2010 A woman of great versatility and determination said goodbye to many friends and relations in San Francisco and Chicago this week. Marti was educated at Brooklyn College, The University of Iowa, and Northeastern University, where she got a BA in chemistry, a masters degree, also in chemistry and drama, followed by a JD at the John Marshall Law school She taught chemistry, practiced law in Chicago; and also produced several shows via the Second City Children's Program. Coming to San Francisco in 1990, she volunteered for AARP for income tax work, City Guides, and the Havarah Group from Temple Emanu-El. For 20 years she struggle with a little known lung disease, hypersensitivity pneumonitis - but it didn't stop her from relentless traveling in Europe, China, Australia and Micronesia. She leaves behind a loving family, her two sons David and Seth Zeitlin (by her deceased husband Dick Zeitlin)" Also her sister Joan Liftin and husband Charlie Harbutt, and their family, and her brother-in-law Dr. Barry Zeitlin and their family. She will be greatly missed by her family, and many friends. Marti was buried in Miami FL., next to her parents. A gathering will be held there, in Chicago, and for friends is San Francisco.
