Thomas Martzloff Obituary

Thomas H. Martzloff 1924-2010 Tom died in Carmel on October 14, 2010 at age 86 after a short illness. Born in Portland, Oregon to Dr. Karl and Sarah Jane Goodpasture Martzloff, Tom was proud of his elections as student body President, both in high school and later at Stanford University. After two years in the Navy, Tom graduated from Stanford in 1948, then went on to complete his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received a master's degree in business management. Following MIT, Tom began a 38 year bi-coastal career in management consulting; first with McKinsey & Company in San Francisco, then in New York City as an executive search consultant. A man of high standards, he held a lifelong commitment to the success and well-being of his clients. But the main event was his marriage to the love of his life, Nancie Stewart. Together, they raised two children: Jennie Ruff, now in Kentfield, CA and son Andrew, in Bozeman, MT. Tom and Nancie enjoyed their retirement years together in Carmel's beautiful, moderate climate and relaxed environment. Tom particularly enjoyed teaching English as a second language to adults and his many years spent hiking the nearby unspoiled coastal hills and forests. Tom's survivors include Nancie, both children, two granddaughters and his brother Albert in Santa Barbara, CA. The family held a private ceremony to honor and celebrate Tom's long and fruitful life.
