Virginia Conroy Obituary

Virginia Anne (nee Wade) Conroy June 23, 1928 - Nov. 7, 2010 Daughter of Amy Catherine Smith and career U.S. Army man Robert Lee Wade, Virginia was born at Letterman Hospital, Presidio of San Francisco. She was reared in San Leandro, and graduated from Holy Name High School in Oakland (1946). She moved to San Francisco to attend nursing school at St. Mary's Hospital. She started her nursing career at SF General and later spent 29 years working at Kaiser Hospital. In 1956 at a family graduation party she met her future husband, Kevin Conroy. Married in 1957, they recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary. She was blessed with six children: Julie, Brian, Amy, Lucy (Brian McBride), Mary, and Ellen (Aaron Lopez). Happily she welcomed grandsons Matthew O'Leary, Benjamin O'Leary, Kevin Lopez, Aidan Lopez, and Liam McBride. At age 67, after finally retiring from Kaiser, she jumped into volunteer work at Doelger Senior Center in Daly City. Since 1962 a resident of Epiphany Parish, she was a member of the Holy Rosary Society and the Crocker Community Center. She enjoyed traveling with the Crocker group on gambling trips, and with the Doelger group to Giants spring training and Canada. With her husband and friends she traveled to Ireland, Germany, and Italy-the trip of her lifetime. Visiting her out-of-town daughters and grandchildren in Boston, Portland, and San Diego energized her. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and brother, Robert Wade, SM. She was predeceased by her sister, Nora Bailey. The family wishes to thank Kaiser Hospital, South San Francisco staff, palliative care team, and others who devoted themselves to her care, as well as the staff of Sterling Court Senior Living. Particular appreciation to nurses and health care aides at Pathways Hospice. We thank all the family and friends who by their visits, phone calls, and cards gave comfort. A vigil service will be held at St. Emydius Church, Ashton Ave. & De Montfort Ave. S.F. at 8pm on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, and Memorial Mass on Thursday, November 11th, 2010 at 10 am. Donations in her memory preferred to Doelger Senior Center. Online condolences www.sullivansfh.com

Dear Julie & Family:

Silently, one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven,
blossom the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the angels.

I am so sorry for your loss, but glad that Mom is finally at rest. I'm glad I was able to attend last evening's service - you gave her a lovely send off.

Love

To Kevin and all the Conroys,
I just want to say how sorry I am about Ginny's death. My childhood is dotted with memories of my own Dad recounting fond memories of cousin Ginny. I always loved seeing her smile at our reunions. She was always so interested and enthusiastic about everything we did, and I really appreciated that she knew "which one" I was!

Take care, all of you, she was a lovely woman.

Love,
Maggie (Clark) Spath

Our deepest condolences to you Kevin, and family. We've missed the occasional face to face contact with Ginny walking the dog and sharing neighborhood stories. She'll be remembered by her energy and lively spirit. May she rest in peace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Virginia did it her way; I hope all of you find comfort in her life and in her death. We always enjoyed having Sunday dinner with Julie. More than that,we had a great time when the "fam" was invited. Virginia was fairly quiet at large dinners until one of her many kids or Grandkids joined in. This wonderful lady who wore "many hats" will certainly be missed! Love and prayers to you all, Nancy and Bart Ochoa

I'll always remember Mrs. Conroy allowing my brother and I to use their telephone everyday when we finished our route delivering the SF Examiner.

And she never once complained about the messy ink we left behind on the handset.

My prayers are with you all.

I had the pleasure of growing up with her daughter Ellen and spent many, many days and sleepover nights there. Even though their house was full of children already, there was always room for one more and you were treated like her own! Sleep well Mrs. Conroy - you will be missed.
