I took a course from Bill Arveson, took my qualifying exams with him, and, later, briefly became his Ph.D. student. He was always kind, encouraging, engaged, and helpful. He was always great to talk to and be around. I think about him frequently. I am sorry he is no longer with us.

Bill was a wonderful mathematician and a wonderful person. He overflowed with very interesting ideas and communicated them beautifully in his writings, his lectures and his conversations. It was a great pleasure to talk to him.
