Michael Jones, 74, of Richmond, CA passed away on March 21, 2013 surrounded by family and loved ones. Death was due to complications following surgery. Michael was born William Michael Jones in Minneapolis, MN, October 3, 1938 to William M. Jones and Fannie Ruth Breedlove Jones, youngest of their 12 children.
Michael lived his amazing life to the fullest, rich with diverse experiences and long lasting friendships. A man with so many talents: self-educated scholar, Air Force mechanic, civil rights activist, Alameda Co. Supervisor candidate, community organizer, building and maintenance contractor, restaurateur and counselor for adults. Family and traditions were of the utmost importance to Michael and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren especially during the holidays. He had 7 children: Roxanne, David (dec), Michelle, Angela, Monte, Michaelanne, and Loring, 19 grand and greatgrandchildren. He is survived by his partner, Linda Sills.
Michael always said he'd want a party to celebrate his life. We invite his friends to attend.
Memorial Service, Fernwood Cemetery, Mill Valley, May 24, 1pm. Celebration of Life 4-8pm, Memorial Park Log Cabin, 110 Veterans Place, San Anselmo.

I was just thinking about Michael the other day, and wondering what he would say during this pandemic. What he would think of this administration, and how much support he would offer us in these bleak times. We miss you, Michael.

For a friend of many years ago, I wish you peace. We crossed paths in the late 60s and early 70s - you worked on the Etna Street house and we had many laughs together. God speed on your next journey.

Special "Jones" things I'll never forget:
Introduced me to fresh anchovy at Chez.
Treated us to the best Christmas-party mac & cheese I ever had and reluctantly shared the secret ingredient.
Surprised me with a visit to the smallest-bar-known-to-man on the way to the beach and everyone inside knew him!
We always had to send someone down our steep hill to go get Jones because his car wouldn't go up it.
Made us wait for breakfast sausages done his way up at the Russian River.
Always cooking - always having a good time . . .
Michael was the best and I will adore him forever. My heart goes out to Linda, Loring, Michaelanne and all the rest of his family and friends.

I am sending my love to Michael's family, and partner, Linda. He was a most amazing man, and I am grateful, honored to call him my friend. Although we shall miss him, the world is a much better place because he was in it... Thank you, MIchael.

Michael and I sat through the first Iraq War at Norman's Bar on College Avenue in Berkeley. We could not believe a war could be watched on TV, and we did not believe in War. Miss you already, Michael; you never failed to make me laugh, even in the grim times. Peace, brother.

Although I relocated and hadn't seen him in more than 30 years, I'll miss Michael. I returned to the Bay Area a couple of years ago and kept promising myself to get in touch with him. He shared his house with me as a room-mate when I needed a place to live.
Cheers and thanks, Michael!

Michael was such a special spirit and help to me as I arrived in the Bay Area. We came to know each other both through our mutual friend, Brena Wlkaer -- and then through his working as the general contractor on the house I was renting. Such personal warmth combined with his being so capable in so many areas and his responsiveness -- had a wonderful crew of people working with him and extended himself in such a personal and welcoming way. To one whose entire life had been relocated..this meant such a great deal. Later, I came to know his extraordinary multi-talented family and the overflowing love -- both for him and from him that was so much a part of his life. How I salute you dear Michael and thank you from a grateful heart!
