Lorna Van Linge Obituary

Lorna Van Linge April 1, 1932 - January 26, 2010 Left us on January 26th, 2010 with the same loving determination that made her the devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Born in Brownsville, Texas to Sigurd and Winifred Varian, she spent her early years in Mexico when her father flew with Pan American Airlines. Later, she attended Palo Alto High School and the University of Pacific. Lorna was immensely proud of her father who founded Varian Associates and whose invention, the Klyston tube - a device which enhanced the clarity of radar - was instrumental in the Allied victory in World War II. Married to her first and only love, Charles Van Linge for 54 years, they shared a love of travel, golf and time with friends. She is additionally survived by her children, Victoria Schuh (Dennis), Brad Van Linge (Stephanie Elkins), Mimi Edwards and Lila Sitaram (Murali), grandchildren Shasha, Cherisse, Kindle, Lanie, Cole and Nick and great-grandson Cylis, brother Jack Varian (Zee) and nieces and nephews in Parkfield, CA. One could not have asked for a more perfect wife, mother and grandmother. We love you Tita and miss you. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice or one of Lorna''s would be preferred: The Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, www.pkdcure.org

Last week I came across a Christmas Card of the Van Linge family. I pulled it out, planning to call her.
Many years ago Lorna and Chuck invited my husband, Dr. John Beale,Jr. to travel to Puerto Vallart and train the local GP in cataract surgery. The Van Linges loaned us their beach house so that the children and I could join John. It was a marvelous experience for all of us. The villagers were so grateful for the eye surgery that was done at no cost that they brought gifts to our table when we went out to dine.
I remember Lorna's kindness, love and genorosity. We socialized for awhile and then lost touch years ago but I am deeply saddened to think that she has gone. I feel that I lost a good friend. Lorna had that type of positive effect on everyone who knew her.
My sympathy to Chuck and their beautiful children.
Fonldy,
Charlotte (Chickie) Lewis

I remember fondly, Sun Valley, Christmas 1982, with the Van Linge family. Lorna's smile was sparkling. God bless.
