Nancy Ellen Dann Englund 1925 - 2012 Seaside, CA - Nancy Ellen Dann Englund, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend died on February 7, 2012 in Seaside, CA. Nancy was born on January 16, 1925 in Oakland, CA, the daughter of Clara B. and Judson G. Dann. Nancy attended Holy Names High School for three years, but graduated from Oakland Technical High School in 1942. Nancy attended the University of California at Berkeley, graduating with a BA degree in Spanish in 1945. She also obtained her teaching credential from UC Berkeley and she taught pre-school, as well as elementary school for several years. In 1951, Nancy worked for the Farm Bureau as a writer for the monthly magazine where she met her future husband, Gene H. Englund. Gene also graduated from UC Berkeley. They had seven children, including triplets. After 26 years of marriage in Berkeley, they moved to several different cities including Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Houston, TX, Evergreen, CO. After Gene retired from Public Accounting, they lived in Mariposa, CA and Incline Village, NV. Nancy's hobbies included sewing, quilting, reading, writing, poetry, traveling and enjoying the fine arts including the opera, ballet and symphonies. She enjoyed hiking with the Trampers in Incline Village, doing volunteer work with the Democratic National Committee and working as a docent in various museums. For over 50 years, Gene and Nancy attended the annual, summer Carmel Bach Festival and decided to move to Seaside, CA seven years ago. We will never forget her kind and gentle spirit, her dazzling blue eyes, a smile that lit up the room, and her unending devotion to her children. We all feel grateful for having a mother that meant everything to us and the world was a better place to share it with someone who will always be remembered as "Mom." Nancy was preceded in death by her older sister, Mary P. Fusscas. She is survived by her sister, Adella M. Rose of Oakland, her loving husband of 58 years, Gene, and her seven children, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her brother-in-laws, De Rose from Oakland, CA and Danny Englund from Idaho Falls, ID. A Celebration of Life service is planned for Noon on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey, CA. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, PO Box 2480, Monterey, CA 93942.
