Peter Sgarbossa

Nov 2, 1942 - Feb 18, 2017

Peter J. Sgarbossa, a patent lawyer, died February 18 at his home in San Mateo. He was 74.
A native of Chicago, Ill., Peter was a graduate of DePaul University with a degree in physics and of the Harvard University Law School. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1977.
Peter, who was scientifically and mechanically inclined, was particularly known for his successful work on patents for such companies as G.D. Searle, Zenith Radio, Varian, and Applied Materials. He was also a supporter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of San Mateo and the Missionaries of St. Charles Scalabrinians. A protector of the environment and an avid hiker, Peter was also a music lover who frequently attended performances of the San Francisco Opera and the San Francisco Symphony.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Lois. He was predeceased by his mother, Rita; father, Dominic; and brother, Emil. Peter is lovingly remembered by his brother Joseph and his nephew Michael and family. Family members and friends will remember his caring support and willingness to share his wisdom.
Visitation will be held at Sneider and Sullivan's Funeral Home in San Mateo on Thursday, February 23, from 5-9 p.m. A vigil will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 24, at St. Bartholomew's Church. My name is Shirley Church, and I am also a patent attorney. I worked with Pete Sgarbossa in the field of patent application drafting for a number of years.

I also had the pleasure of spending at least a small amount of time with Pete and his wife Lois. Prior to meeting Lois, I heard such glowing and beautiful sentiment about Louis from Pete that I knew she must be someone special.

As far as Pete was concerned, Lois was the only woman he had ever considered to be so special, and he wanted to spend his life with her.

I had moved to San Diego about 5 years ago, and just learned of the passing of Pete yesterday; so, I was not able to send flowers or a card at the time services were held.

Lois, if you are reading this, there is no sentiment which can compensate in any way for your loss. However, I believe in God, and I am certain you will be together with Pete again in the future.

Sincerely,
Shirley Church

Dear beloved wife Lois, family, and friends,
I met Peter and Lois, dear family, and friends at one of the most fun, happiest memories ever---my colleague Joe's wedding day to sweet Nancy!!! I understand nothing made dear mother Rita happier than extended visits at Peter's home. Joe adored his genius big brother's perspicuous advice. I know this took a toll. And I pray God fills all hearts and lives with love, health, and happiness through this time.xx00Marilyn
