LAWRENCE J. GRANGER

Age 93, of Upland, CA, passed away Dec. 26, 2010, at Rancho Specialty Hospital in Rancho Cucamonga. He was born Oct. 27, 1917, in Flint, MI, and was destined to become the eldest of 7 children of Joseph and Anna Granger. He lived in Upland for 25 years after 38 years in Whittier, 1 year in South Gate and Downey, and his childhood through college years in Michigan. He is a graduate of the General Motors Institute of Technology, and was an Army Veteran in WWII, stationed at Camp Beale, CA, and the Philippines. A 32 year employee of the Ford Motor Company, he was a plant engineer at their Pico Rivera Assembly facility. After early retirement from Ford in 1980, he worked for Toyota and later assisted Northrop Aviation after they acquired the Pico Rivera plant in 1982, for the B2 stealth bomber. Larry is a parishioner of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Upland. He was an avid golfer, amateur radio operator (W6NLT), family man and mentor to his 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Stella H. Granger; sons, James L. Granger of Santa Clarita, CA, Kenneth J. Granger of Santee, CA, and Gerald T. Granger of Lakeside, CA. Larry has 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Raymond F. Granger of Lolo, MT, Bernard G. Granger of Whidbey Island, WA; and 2 sisters, Genevieve Doyle of Seattle, WA, and Patricia Blair of San Diego, CA. His surviving brother is Robert J. Granger of La Habra, CA; and his surviving sister is Irene L. Gunkel of Lisle, IL. Dad you were a hero to your sons and an exceptional father. You will always be in our prayers and never forgotten. We love you! Visitation will be Jan. 5, 2011, from 10:00 to 10:30 A.M. at Stone Funeral Home, 355 East Ninth Street, Upland (909) 982-1369. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 A.M. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 2110 N. San Antonio Avenue, Upland. An Interment Ceremony will take place at 1:15 P.M. at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 2161 S. Fullerton Road, Rowland Heights.
