I don't have the words to express my sense of loss and disbelief when I heard of Curtis' passing. He was a wise soul. His quiet professionalism and class were clear to all who were fortunate to know him.
I'll miss you, Curtis.

While I did not know Curtis well I worked with him at MWD and later had the priviledge of reviewing his work as a Director on The Board at MWD. What impressed me about Curtis, aside from his wonderful personality and spiriit, was the fact that he was a Registered Engineer a status held by very few African-American Men and by the general population Curtis was always very professional and well prepared in his presentations and was most patient and gracious. even when other Board Members, were not towards him. I will miss him and I know that all of his family and friends are deeply hurt and grieved by his passing.

Curtis, it was a shock to hear of your passing! It brought back a lot of memories for Sandy and I - all of them good. I remember when you moved from Colorado to the "Couv" - we became good friends first at Jason Lee Jr. High and then at Columbia River. Good memories of our senior year in football and the friendship we developed. I wish we had kept in touch better over the years - sounds as though you had a good life in So Cal! We will certainly miss your smile and positive outlook on life! Rest in peace - we love you Curtis!

I'll Never forget you Curtis Baynes! One of my favorite memories was my Senior Year and your Junior Year at Photo Day for the Football Team... You were an amazing Running Back and every one had Black Football Shoes except for me... I had Joe Namath Signature White Shoes and you wanted to wear them in your "Heisman" Pose! We had fun in those years and I'll never forget you or the memories we all made together... gosh I wish we could go out and Beat Kelso again! RIP old Friend... we will run again when it is my time!

Many condolences to the Bayne's Family Curtis was an awesome young man when we were at Columbia River High School.... I never saw him again but remember our football days very well!

Dear Baynes family: I was deeply saddened to learn of Curtis' death. He was a joy to have as a student. The photo you've included above has his trademark smile that could light up a room. I was Head, Department of Forest Engineering at Oregon State when he was a student here. He worked very hard for his degree and I was very proud of his accomplishment, as I'm sure you all were. He'll be missed by all of us at OSU who knew and worked with him.
In sympathy,
George W. Brown, Dean Emeritus

I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Curtis. He was a good friend of mine, a kind soul, and a genuinely outstanding person. We went to several UCLA games together at the Rose Bowl, and talked about his Colorado Buffaloes quite often. I am at a loss for words; I hope he is smiling right now down upon us as he reads these tributes.

Rest in Peace old friend.
