DARREL ESTES Obituary

MARCH 19, 1931 - NOVEMBER 30, 2010 Dr. Darrel H. Estes passed away on November 30, 2010 after a year-long battle with cancer with his loving family present. Darrel was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, the youngest child of Walley Franklin Estes and Amy Amelia Hawkins Estes. He lived and was educated in Nashua, NH schools and graduated from Newman Preparatory School in Boston, Massachusetts. Darrel proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1949 to 1952 and was a member of the American Legion Post #3 in Nashua, New Hampshire. Darrel, his wife Shirley (Ferguson) Estes and baby daughter Faith Anne moved to California in 1956 settling in the San Fernando Valley. He graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College, Los Angeles, in 1961 and set up his practice first in Burbank, CA and then in North Hollywood where he practiced until his retirement in 1996. He was a very active member of the North Hollywood Lions Club where he served as president and treasurer and as secretary/treasurer to Lions Past District Governor Pamela Burdick. He also served as District and Regional Chairman. He served one term as president of the Southern California Lions Eye Institute. He and his North Hollywood club members served tirelessly in supporting the work of the Los Angeles Blind Children's Center, which was his favorite charity. He leaves behind his wife Shirley; daughters Faith (Bob) Stuck, Pamela (Ken) Larsen, Sharrel (Bill) Andersen, Marsha and her fiance Rob Kerwan, sister Delores Hutchinson, thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter Ann Marie, grandson Steven Andersen, brother Walley F. Estes, sisters Phyllis Phalon and Caryle Lefavor, mother Amy Estes and father Walley F. Estes. He will be greatly missed and forever loved. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Darrel's favorite charity, The Los Angeles Blind Children's Center, 4120 Marathon Street, Los Angeles, CA 90029-3684. www.blindchildrenscenter.org. Funeral services will be Monday, December 6, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Chapel of Macy and Son in McMinnville, Oregon. Burial will follow at Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors.
