Hazel Scott Obituary

SCOTT-Hazel Josephine Scott, a long-time resident of Alhambra and South Pasadena, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 7, 2010 in Mill Creek, Washington. Hazel was born in Waterloo, Iowa as the youngest daughter of Frank and Orpha Folk on 3-26-1917.After her schooling she moved to the Los Angeles area, and married Erson A. Scott in 1947.Hazel worked in Firestone Company 's accounting department for 35 years, and even more years and countless hours as a volunteer at The Elizabeth Center for Cancer Detection in Los Angeles. Dr. Elizabeth Hohl founded the center in 1944 to provide early breast cancer detection for low income women, and Hazel was there performing various voluntary tasks from its first day until 1996. She was also a member of Alhambra Chapter of Eastern Star, and a faithful member of Oneonta Congregational Church in South Pasadena. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Erson, in 1999 and her sister Pearl (Waterloo,Iowa) in 2004.She is survived by her step-children Lynda Thorstrom of Olympia, WA. and Larry (Arja) Scott of Snohomish,WA, grandchildrenRussell, Nishon, Michelle, Karina and Taria and their families, and her nieces Sandra Roberts of Waterloo, IA and Sharon Minning of Canton, MI. and their families. Memorial of Hazel's life will be celebrated by family and friends in Mill Creek, Washington on Sunday, September 12.

HAZEL ENRICHED OUR LIVES WITH HER STRONG PERSONALITY, HER CONVICTIONS AND HER COMMITMENT TO HER FAMILY. WE WILL CHERISH THE MEMORIES AND ARE THANKFUL THAT THE LAST FOUR YEARS WE HAD HER CLOSE BY, SO WE COULD BE A PART OF HER SERENE DAILY LIFE.
