Jane Upham Obituary

UPHAM-Jane S. Upham, passed away in Yorba Linda, California on December 26, 2010 at the age of 93. She was born Jane Catherine Steadman in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis and earned a bachelors degree in English literature from the University of Minnesota. Following graduation she taught high school English and Latin in New Prague, Minnesota. In 1943 she married A. Tyler Upham, beginning a marriage that would last 64 years. The couple moved to California in 1949, and she served as an active community volunteer in San Gabriel and San Marino. She was elected an elder of the San Marino Community Church where she worshiped for more than 50 years. Her husband, A. Tyler Upham, and a son Dr. Albert Tyler Upham, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Janet M. Sarles of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her son, Dr. Steadman Upham of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She is remembered by her family for her sharp wit and intellectual curiosity, and as loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
