Katie Kolenda Obituary

FEBRUARY 17, 1912 - OCTOBER 22, 2010 Loving and much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Katie Klos was born and grew up in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she met and married Martin Kolenda. For 68 years they enjoyed having their family always near them, nine years in Chicago where their three grandchildren were born, and then in Los Angeles. Katie and Martin were active volunteers for many years at Wilkenson's Senior Center, sang with the Silvertones for 17 years, often entertaining at nursing homes. They had many wonderful vacations and trips, and enjoyed the many happy gatherings with family and friends over the years. Martin passed away in 1998, and now Katie has joined him - may they rest in peace together and sing in the Lord's heavenly choir. Katie is survived by daughter, Stanis Skryha; son-in-law, William Skryha; grandchildren, Bryan Skryha, Vicki (Allen) Buller, and Terri (Newt) Goodwell; also by great grandchildren, Katie Buller, Peter Buller and Sophi Goodwell; and many nieces and nephews. We will miss Katie, but were so lucky to have her until age 98. She was admired for her positive attitude about life, always saw beauty in people and nature, had a great sense of humor, and liked to make others smile. All of her family and friends are blessed with the many happy memories of her.
