MARGARET STEWART Obituary

July 9, 1921 November 15, 2010 On November 15, 2010, our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and friend passed away at her home in Upland. Maggie Stewart was born in Ontario, California. She went to local schools and discovered her love for student government while attending Chaffey High School. During her years there she was elected to several student offices and ultimately was the first woman elected president of the student body. In 1944 Maggie married Walter Stewart, a long-time Ontario resident as well. They had 3 daughters and lived in the Upland/Ontario area for their entire married life. Maggie's heart was in serving others in her community through volunteer work. Some of the areas where she served include: San Antonio Community Hospital Auxiliary, Spanish Trails Girl Scout Council, and Assistance League of Upland. But one of her main loves was politics and helping elect local candidates. She served the County, State and National Republican Party in various roles and was a delegate to 3 presidential conventions. She was known fondly as "Mrs. Republican." Maggie received numerous awards for her many years of service. Among those were the Woman of the Year, awarded by the State of California Assembly, Women Helping Women award from Soroptomist International, Chaffey Tiger of the Year award, and the Presidents award for San Antonio Community Hospital. Maggie's real love was for her family. She was involved in the lives of her children as they were growing up, and she cared deeply for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a good friend and enjoyed taking numerous cruises with the "potluck group." Maggie will be missed by many. Maggie had a voice of distinction and was a personality to reckon with. She was a generous woman of strong character with a caring and forgiving spirit. She is preceded in death by her daughter Sandy Lee and her husband Walter Stewart. Maggie is survived by: daughters: Carol Hawkins, Upland, Shirley Preston (Jack), Rancho Cucamonga, son-in-law: Bill Lee (Lynn); grandchildren, William Lee, Scott Lee (Wendy), Heather Nehamen (Marc), Gavin Preston; great-grand- children: Samantha & Travis Nehamen, Sandy, Summer & Sadie Lee, Zane & Kingston Lee; nephew: Larry Crawford (Terry), niece: Julie Sylvester; Her wonderful caregivers: Gerry Boswell, Oges Siregar, Paulina Lambah, and Audrey Fenton. We will miss you deeply and keep you forever in our hearts. Services will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010, at 1:00 pm at Life Bible Fellowship Church, 2426 North Euclid Avenue, Upland, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: San Antonio Hospital Foundation, 999 San Bernardino Road, Upland, CA 91786 or Charter Hospice Attn: Bonnie Beck, 1012 East Cooley Drive, Suite G, Colton, CA 92325
