MARGARITA HORNER Obituary

Margarita Lorbeer Horner passed away Saturday, October 16th, 2010 from pneumonia complications arising after a fall. She was born in Guadalajara, Mexico on August 12, 1926 where her parents Charlotte and Wendell Lorbeer were teacher and teacher- principal of a protestant boy's school. When she was 5 the family moved back to Riverside, California for a few years and then settled in Pasadena, California. Margarita graduated from Pomona College in 1949 with a major in Botany. There she met her future husband Kenton Horner. From summer sessions at Occidental College she obtained an elementary teaching credential. She taught primary grades for thirty two years, mostly in the Ontario-Montclair School District. Margarita is survived by her husband of 63 years, son Daniel Horner of Mariposa, CA, two daughters, Deborah Walden of Diamond Bar, CA and Laurie Stalians of Hollister, MO. Margarita had 6 grand children and 4 great grand children. Margarita, for many years, was an active member of the Pomona Branch of the American Association of University Women where she served several terms on the Board of Directors and as President. Also, during her retirement she was a member of the Claremont Women's Club, again serving on the Board of Directors. Margarita enjoyed traveling and taking many trips with members of her family all over the world.
