Paul Seymour Obituary

SEYMOUR-Paul B. Seymour, MD, February 18, 1922 - November 19, 2010. Resident of Covina. After 88 years as a beloved husband, father and physician, Paul passed away peacefully at the Villa Sierra Madre hospice in Glendora. He was born in Sacaton, AZ, one of seven children of Edward and Nellie Seymour. He grew up on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation while his father served as school teacher to the local tribe. He finished his high school years in New York state. He enlisted in the Air Force as a B24 bomber pilot and flew some 50 missions in the Pacific theater during WW2. He returned to New York, enrolled in medical school and became a general practitioner, relocating to Southern California. In Covina in the 1950s, Paul became a pillar of the community, first as a doctor, as Chief of Staff at Intercommunity Hospital, as a founding member of the West Covina Rotary Club, and longtime member of South Hills Country Club and the local Barn Boys. To his family and friends, Paul was a larger-than-life character who was routinely drawn back to the Apache reservation, where he used his cowboy skills to catch horses for the whole family, cook meals over an open fire, and tell the time by the sun with amazing accuracy. He is survived by his wife Elaine Seymour, beloved children Barbara Baxter, Chris Baxter and Paul Seymour, grandchildren Brett Baxter, Colin Baxter, Danny Baxter and Edan Seymour, and caring in-laws Waddel Sherman, Nancy Dean Baxter, Julie Seymour and Sunny Sheikh. He was predeceased by his sons Timothy Seymour and Richard Seymour. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, Dec 4, from 12:00- 4:00pm at Hurst Ranch, 1227 South Orange Avenue, West Covina.
