Phyllis Cook Obituary

COOK-Phyllis Cook of West Covina died Thanksgiving Day November 25, 2010. She was 91 yrs old. Phyllis was born in New Richmond, Indiana September 1919 to Chester and Hazel Frame. At 30 yrs. of age, Chester was struck and killed by lightning leaving behing his wife and 2 yr. old daughter Phyllis. They moved to Texas where Phyllis later followed in her mother's footsteps and became a nurse. Phyllis met and married Army Corps Lt. Charles R. Cook (Charlie). During the war, Charles Cook was deployed to the North African Theater where he flew numerous bombing missions against the Nazi's. Phyllis continued her career as a nurse until Charlie's triumphant return. Following the war, she and her husband traveled to California to begin a family. He initially worked for Ford Motor Co.-Tractor Division. She and Charlie later moved to Southern California and eventually Chino, California where they began their own Ford Tractor dealership. In 1953 they moved to Pomona, California and in 1957 they moved to West Covina and established C.R. Cook Ford Tractor, Baldwin Park. Their business became a major supplier of construction equipment to Southern California contractors. in 1978, with her sons grown and working the family business, they acquired East Shore RV Park in San Dimas. Charlie died in 1983. In addition to overseeing the equipment business operations, Phyllis took over this new RV Park and developed East Shore into a 5 Star nationally known RV resort. She retired from the business at the age of 80. Throughout her life she enjoyed music, singing and dancing and her friends. Phyllis also enjoyed traveling and being involved in many charitable activities in her community. She was instrumental in starting the Retarded Children's Association in West Covina. Phyllis is survived by her sons Dean, Robert, Russell and Gregory. She will laid to rest next to her husband at Forest Lawn, Covina on December 7, 2010 at 11:30am.
