Rosemary Jones Obituary

JONES-Rosemary Tilt Jones passed away at her home in Balboa, CA on Thursday, October 21, 2010. Rosemary, known as "Rosie," was born May 21, 1930, the daughter of Ned Bass Tilt and Rosemary "Posie" Miller Tilt of Pasadena, CA. Rosie attended Arroyo Seco School, Polytechnic School, class of 1945, and graduated from the Westridge School in Pasadena as a member of the class of 1948. She then attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY and earned an associates degree at Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa, CA in Horticultural Design. In 1952, Rosie married Graham "Beezie" McClinton Jones, the son of Thaddeus Crane Jones Jr. and Agnes McClinton Jones of Pasadena, CA. After marriage, they initially resided in Pasadena, but moved to Balboa, CA in 1957. They raised three children, Laura McClinton Jones Tomlinson (Charles) of Centennial, CO, Rosemary "Allie" Jones Dewey (Brian) of Centennial, CO, and Whitney Edward "Ned" Jones of Newport, RI. Her four grandchildren, Ned, Annie, Graham, and Sabra, all reside in CO. Rosie followed in her husband's footsteps by developing a keen interest in sailing with time spent cruising on the family sloop, first the "Sanguine", the "Halcyon", and then the "Raven". She sailed competitively from time to time and was chosen to race in the prestigious Adams Cup regatta in Connecticut as well as racing in Mother's Sabots for many years at Newport Harbor Yacht Club. Rosie's favorite past time was her passion for horticulture. She was a second generation member and past president of the Digger's Garden Club in Pasadena and anapproved Judge of Horticulture as well as a past member of the Board of Directors ofthe Garden Club of America. Rosie mentored, judged, designed, propagated, and was involved in horticulture conservation. Her presence and expertise was always in demand in horticulture circles across the country. At the end of the day, she loved to tend to her own garden and share her wealth of knowledge. To know her was to love her. Rosie was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Edward Tilt and by her husband Beezie Jones. Services will be held Saturday November 6 at 11:00 at St. James Church, Newport Beach, CA. Contributions in Rosie's memory may be made to the Huntington Botanical Garden, The Digger's Garden Club Endowment Fund, and The Hoag Hospital Foundation.
