John Baumann Obituary

Rev. John F. Baumann

Rev. John Frederich Baumann, April 8, 1923-June 12, 2013, peacefully entered his eternal home at the age of 90, to reunite with his wife, Doris.

He was born in Farina, Illinois, son of the late Rev. Otto & Amelia (Ambuehl) Baumann.

John attended elementary and middle schools in Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska, graduating from high school in Bennett, Iowa. He continued his education at Elmhurst College before graduating from Lakeland College. John then pursued his religious studies at Eden Seminary, graduating in 1948.

On April 19th, 1950, John was united in marriage to Doris Neudeck at St. Luke's Methodist Church, Sheboygan. They were blessed with 62 years together and also with one daughter, Ruth.

Doris preceded him in death on August 30, 2012.

John served at his first church, Peace UCC in Monticello, Iowa. In 1954 he relocated to Immanuel UCC in Darlington, WI where he spent many happy years of his life and created life-long friendships. In 1967 he was called to St. Peter's UCC in Kiel until his retirement in 1988. His family also developed

many wonderful friendships while residing in Kiel. John was especially devoted to his pastoral calling. Doris and John shared their strong faith in many ways. Retirement years were spent in Sheboygan, residing at Terrace Estates the past 8 years and most recently at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

In addition to his pastoral duties, John served as a Cub Scout Master. He devoted his time to act as moderator and twice chairman of the Division on Church and Ministry in the North East Association. He also served as President of the Calumet County Ministerial Association. In retirement, he served several local churches as a supply assistant.

John especially enjoyed the outdoors, walking through the woods, observing nature at its best. In Florida he spent hours on the beach, collecting shells. To relax, he fished many small streams and along the Mississippi River. He loved a good a game of golf. John and his family enjoyed vacations, camping and exploring Upper Wisconsin and Michigan. He found great pleasure gardening, growing delicious raspberries and tomatoes and his beautiful roses. John was fortunate to travel in Norway and Germany, reconnecting with the Staehle family in Heilbronn. Wolfgang spent a year with the Baumann's as a German exchange student in 1953.

He was blessed with a unique sense of humor and also quite a story teller. He created many smiles from those he conversed with. He also reached out to others with a gift of a hand written letters. He would copy a scene from nature or an old family picture and include it in the letter.

John was a member of St. Peter's UCC, Kiel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Doris.

John will be fondly remembered by his daughter, Ruth & and son-in-law, Kurt Windbiel, beloved granddaughters, Kara & Kristen, second cousins and many friends.

Funeral services for John will be held at 4:30pm on Sunday June 16, 2013 at St. Peter's UCC, 424 Fremont St. Kiel with Rev. Judine Duerwaechter and Rev. James Hoppert officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Sunday from 2:00pm until the time of services.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Terrace Estates and most recently, Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their genuine care & concern

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.

My concern, loving thoughts and prayers are with Ruth and family at this time. Having grown up in the neighboring UCC parsonage in New Holstein, I remember fondly that John and Doris were grand friends of my family. Now a UCC pastor myself, I appreciate even more deeply what John and my father faced in ministry. May God bless the rich and wonderful memory of John!
