Kevin Higgins Obituary

Higgins, Kevin (1979-2016)

Kevin Scott Higgins, age 37, of Glenbeulah, passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2016.

He was born on May 30, 1979 in Stephenville, TX, son of William Jr. and Debra (Baker) Higgins.

Kevin served in the United States Army as a decorated soldier of the 1st Cavalry Infantry in Bosnia.

He also served in the United States Air Force Reserve for 6 years.

Following his service, he was a disabled veteran and suffered from PTSD. He was under the care of mental health professionals through the VA.

Kevin was an active member of the VFW Post 1230 in Sheboygan. He was currently serving as the Jr. Vice Commander and was next in line to become Post Commander. He spent countless hours volunteering his time and helping other disabled veterans who were returning from service.

On December 11, 2015, he married his soulmate, Nicole Papenfuss.

He loved fishing, golfing, hunting, camping and his motorcycle. He always loved being outdoors and had a special bond with all animals.

Kevin was truly an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was always willing to help and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He lived by the motto, "Protect and Serve."

Survivors include: Nicole of Glenbeulah; Son: Kevin Jr. and his mother Crystal; 3 daughters: Julia, Gabriela, and Sophia; Parents: William Jr. and Debra Higgins of Floresville, TX; Father and mother-in-law: Keith and June Papenfuss; Brother: William III (Yvonne) of Floresville, TX; and Sister-in-law: Jessie Papenfuss (Fiancé: Cody Garn) of Sheboygan Falls.

He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends and "brothers in arms."

Kevin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Raymond and Aileen Dickson, and Billy Paul Baker; and paternal grandparents: William and Lenora Higgins.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday (July 25, 2016) at 1:00 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth.

We knew Kevin through camping with our son and their families. He was in his element around nature and the out-of-doors -- catching frogs with the kids, rafting down the river, and climbing a rope up a 30 foot tree! It was clear that Kevin was devoted to his family and they to him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
