Daniel Gaffney Obituary
SHELBY-Daniel Gaffney, 70, of 304 Cdearwood Drive, died Feb. 12, 2011.
He was born June 11, 1940, in Cherokee County. He was the son of the late Roy D. Crockette and the late Elizabeth and Moses Gaffney.
Daniel married the love of his life, Ruby Mintz, on July 22, 1962. He joined First Baptist Church in Earl on June 16, 1985, where he served as trustee, he was on the usher board, he was a pastor's aid, and he was also on the kitchen committee, until his health declined.
He graduated from Granard High School in Gaffney, S.C., May 30, 1961, where he drove a bus from 1959-1961. Daniel had been sick since he was a teenager. These were not easy years for him. He had many sleepless nights, several crying days and some "feel like giving up days." As his health deteriorated, Daniel spent the last of his life in the loving care of his wife. His wishes were to remain at home with her through his illness as her efforts were tireless in caring for him.
Affectionately called "Toot" by his family he was always smiling, caring, compassionate, and would do anything he could for anyone without wanting something in return. He had a special protective place in his heart for his daughters. He was a faithful husband, dedicated father, loving grandfather, beloved brother and cherished friend. Thank God for prayer and the circle of love from his family and friends who worked diligently day and night in honor of Daniel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Milton B. Gaffney; foster parents, Paul and Annie Burris; foster brother, Ralph Burris and foster sister, Fannie Covington.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, of 48 years, Ruby Mintz Gaffney; three daughters, Tin G. Wilson (Kirby) of Blacksburg, S.C., Jessie G. Moore (The Rev. Roger) of Grover and Sheila G. Jennings (Gerald) of Shelby; grandson, Jarrett C. Linder, of the home and whom he reared as his own son; niece, Janie C. Kirby (The Rev. George) of Blacksburg, S.C.; four extended children, Kathrin S. Hartgrove (Minister Randy) of Shelby, Candance S. Bridges (Tariq) of Bridgeport, Conn., Katie Littlejohn of Shelby, Paul A.
