Jerry Scruggs Obituary

APRIL 26, 1932 - APRIL 15, 2010
SHELBY - Mr. Jerry Scruggs, 77, of 805 Hill St., died Thursday, April 16, 2010, at Hospice of Wendover.
Jerry was born in Rutherford County on April 26, 1932, a son of the late Hollis and Odessa Padgett Scruggs. He graduated from Cliffside High School and attended Howard Business School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for Duke Power Cliffside Plant and retired after 35 years. He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church, Prayer War-riors Sunday School Class, and a former usher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Scruggs; stepson, Rodney Kelly; brother, Jack Scruggs; and sister, Violet S. Newton.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce Hornbuckle Scruggs; a son, Russell (Dusty) Scruggs of Shelby; a granddaughter, Kandice Scruggs of West Palm Beach, Fla., a great-grandson, Logan Portella of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a brother, Hollis Scruggs Jr. and wife, Glenda, of Forest City; a sister, Madeline Scruggs Hardin and husband, Charles, Forest City; a brother-in-law, Sam Newton of Forest City; several loving nieces and nephews; and two "special babies," Butch and Annie.
Funeral: Sunday, April 18, 3:30 p.m., Landmark Baptist Church
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service, in the sanctuary.

Burial: Cleveland Memorial Park
