I had the pleasure of working with Hazel and becoming the best of friends over the years. She was so youthful even in later years. I will treasure the times we spent together. My deepest condolences to her family.

Hazel was a wonderful, caring, lively lady who graced our three years in Shelby and has continued to be a dear friend since we left. Friday lunches in Shelby and Cleveland County were our favorite activity. Hazel would share her childhood stories, all her work experiences and her love of sports. Each time we have traveled south, we always enjoyed seeing her smiling face and being with her!

I had the opportunity to get to know Hazel as her First Baptist Church visitor this past year. Each month I would take her new literature and give her news from the church. She always looked forward to getting the new Open Windows daily devotions. I enjoyed getting to know Hazel each month, but there were two highlights of the year for me. One was taking her to Extention Sunday where members who could no longer attend church regularly, due to health or other issues, were honored. A second was going with her to visit her friend Margaret who she was always so concerned about. She always enjoyed talking about her family and tootball. I will miss Hazel and spending time with her.

We will miss spending time with this sweet lady including watching sporting events, especially when the games showcased members of the Washburn family. She had a lively personality and was devoted to her family. She will be missed.

We have fond memories of Aunt Hazel's sweet disposition, and her sweet tooth. She was a resilient and independent woman who will be missed. Our condolences to all who loved her.
