Clovis Pullig Obituary

Clovis Holley Pullig

"Mama C"

Clovis Holley Pullig, of Ashland, LA, went on to be with her Lord on January 12, 2013 at the age of 95 after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Ashland Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Jerry Martin, Rev. Dave Moore, and Rev. Jerry Penfield. Graveside services will immediately follow at Ramah Cemetery in Ashland, Louisiana. Visitation is planned from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home in Coushatta, Louisiana.

Mama C was born on July 15, 1917 in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. She married Robert Samuel Pullig on December 24, 1946 who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William Otis Holley and Effie McGee Holley, her infant son, Robert Holley Pullig and her brother J. V. "Bob" Holley.

She is survived by her three children, Marilyn Caldwell and husband Learohn, Sam Pullig and wife Becky, Kelly Guerrero and husband Kevin; grandchildren Robert Caldwell, Ryan Caldwell and wife Susan, Joseph Pullig and wife Micah, Rachel Pullig Chapman and husband Jake, Elaina Guerrero and Landon Guerrero; four great grandchildren, Julia, Georgia and Owen Chapman, and Bronsen Pullig, and one sister Elaine Holley Hughes, and a host of nieces and nephews, including Pat Holley Boyd who held a special place in her heart.

Ms. Clovis lived a rich and full life until the day she died. She was a devoted member of the Ashland Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for nearly 40 years. She graduated from Northwestern Normal School in 1936 and began teaching in Bienville Parish. She was an educator for 35 years, spending the majority of her time at Castor High School. After her retirement from Bienville Parish School System, she served as Principal of Ashland Community School. She served two terms as Alderman of the Town of Ashland and later served three terms as Mayor. She served as Grand Marshal in the Castor Pine Beetle Festival, and Grand Marshal of the Ashland Spring Festival.

Throughout her years as a teacher, both in the school system and the church, she touched many lives and was known for her wit and strong Christian character. She was very proud to be an educator and delighted in the successes of her students. A scholarship in her honor, the "Clovis Holley Pullig Scholarship Fund," was established by her children to commemorate her years of service in the field of education for Education Majors from Castor High School.

She was known as the best chocolate pie maker in the country, admired for her flower gardens, especially her daylilies, and was often recognized as the Town of Ashland's Historian, because of her excellent memory and long established roots in the community.

She loved to travel whether near or far with her family, and never turned down an opportunity to visit new places. She loved her God, her family and the community in which she lived and served.

Honoring Mrs. Pullig as pallbearers will be: Robert Caldwell, Ryan Caldwell, Joseph Pullig, Jake Chapman, Landon Guerrero and Lynn Estes, Jr.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Hernandez and his staff for his years of kind attention and medical care.

Memorial suggestions include the Ashland Baptist Church or the Clovis Holley Pullig Scholarship Fund in care of Castor High School.

Mama C will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her legacy will live on through the people whose lives she touched.

Kelly and family, my most heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathy go out to each of you at this time of great loss. Mrs. Clovis was very special to me. She was one of the most beautiful persons that I have ever met. Her kind nature and sweet spirt always put a smile on my face. I would run into her in Castor every now and again and I would always tease her about her age. I would always say Mrs Clovis arent you about 75 and her face would always light up with the sweetest smile saying "No son Im 95". Of course she didnt look it. She really was such a beautiful lady inside and out and I for one will miss her and feel blessed to be able to call her friend. God bless all of you.

I was so saddened to hear Mrs. Clovis had passed away, she was truly one of the kindest, sweetest ladies I've ever known. Not only a favored teacher, but she & Mr. Bob were such special mentors as we grew up at Ashland Baptist Church. What a glorious reunion she & Mr. Bob are having. Marilyn, Sam & Kelli, my prayers are with you and your families.

So difficult to lose someone like Mrs. Clovis. Not only her family will feel the emptiness of her being gone from this earth, but also for those of us who loved her in the community and surrounding area, especially Ashland Baptist Church where she was one of the faithful. Heaven readily opened up its gates for her. I am proud to say she inspired me with her life as a Christian. With love, Beth Dupree
