George and roomed together at LSU. He was a good man who lived life to the fullest. George had a flair that made him so exciting to be around. A good memory of a good friend during that period in our lives.

George and I met about 1965 and were friends for many years, sharing beers, poems, adventures, and philosophical conversations. When we first met I was a shy, intellectual teenager and he an outgoing and generous mentor. I'll always remember him fondly and be forever in his debt.

George will always be in my memory, because I love to remember him. With his awesome poetry, his knowledge of writers, his cooler full of beer, his great booming voice, and his uncanny understanding of the situation, he remains a vivid memory, and a friend.

George was a great person and a lively poet. I remember him showing up at the coyote house with a cooler full of black label and a fist full of poems. He and David Lewis taught me that poetry was a living, breathing, dancing, juking, drinking and hell raising form. I owe George a debt of gratitude. I raise a toast to this great man.

When I first met George, he was reading some of his famous poetry to our group, Sunday at Four. I was entranced by this larger than life man and the way he delivered his poems which I came to learn, were like pieces of himself that he shared with us. That was in 1995 and I've been a fan ever since. I love Melissa like a sister and am so sad for all the family.

George lived in the garage apartment next to our dollhouse apartment during the early 70s. He was always smiling and ready for a good time ... and always hungry! He holds a special place in my heart.
