Jimmie Thomas Obituary
(1954-2014)
Shreveport, LA-Funeral services honoring the life of Jimmie Kay Thomas, 59, of Shreveport will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home in Shreveport. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on March 25, 2014. Burial will follow the service at Cool Springs Cemetery in Longstreet, Louisiana. Pastor Aaron Burgner will be officiating and Jackie Lansdale will deliver the eulogy.
Jimmie Kay Thomas passed away on March 22, 2014 at Willis-Knighton North Medical Center due to complications with pancreatic cancer. She was born on September 8, 1954 in Center, TX. She was Salutatorian of her Logansport High School graduating class of 1972. After marriage to Randy Thomas of Longstreet and then three children, Jamie, Josh and Jenna, Jimmie Kay earned her Bachelor's degree and Master's Plus 30 in education from Stephen F. Austin University. Upon graduation, she began a 22-year career in teaching high school science. She retired from Caddo Magnet High School upon diagnosis in April of 2013.
Jimmie Kay was an exuberant person known for her honesty, intelligence, and generous spirit. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were the pinnacle of her life, and she was quick to tell of their many accomplishments in school, sports, and life. She was always in the stands, even on her sickest days, supporting and cheering on her children and grandchildren. She also loved to spend time with her lifelong friends and her colleagues from Caddo Magnet High. Jimmie Kay loved to read, cook big meals for family and friends, shop with her daughters, and attend Summer Grove Baptist church. Jimmie Kay's kind heart and fighting spirit will always be remembered by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Peggy Daw of Joaquin, TX.
She is survived by her husband Randy Thomas; daughter Jamie Thomas; son Josh Thomas, his wife Jordan, and grandsons Jake and Jonah; daughter Jenna Bolin and her husband Forrest; sisters Joyce Carter and Jaye Robison and husband Donnie; brother Johnny Mack Daw and wife Evon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ann Liles; Dennis and Jan Harvey; Jerry and Sharon Thomas; Jimmy and Carol Ray Thomas; and Joe and Kay Thomas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wade David, B.J. Robison, Darrell Pryor, Dustin Tharpe, Jake Lansdale, and Mike Maguire. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Harrell, Greg Frazier, Steve McDowell, Coleman Robison, and Curtis Loftin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
