It is sad to hear about Joes's passing, but he is in a better place now. I've been eating Cobbs bar-b-q since i can remember. My grandfather George McCallister was the one i owe credit to for introducing me to "real" bar-b-q at Joe's. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family during this time.

Sue and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I grew up eating "Joe Cobb" which my mother, Sudie Stinnett, served regularly. After I left Bossier, I would long for a taste of your barbeque. On every trip home, I would go straight from the airport to Cobb's and THEN go home. It was always a treat to visit with you. Joe and Sue always asked how I was doing and were so cheerful and upbeat. I will always treasure the memories of eating at Cobb's. Thanks for all the joy you brought to my family. Joe will be missed.

I have such fond memories of going to get "Joe Cobb's" through the alley with my daddy years ago as a child. It has always been my first stop when I travel to Bossier from Houston to see my brothers now. It has been a life-long tradition to go and see both Mr and Mrs Cobb. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I hope that the restaurant continues as Bossier will not be the same without it. My thoughts go out to his wife and daughters. Love, Margaret "Sister" Crowe Ames

I worked on Monroe Street just across the way from Bossier City Hall & the old police station back in the early 70's. It was almost and every or every otheiId that for 18 years then had job change across to Shreveport but I still visited Cobbs until just about month ago. Mr. Cobb was always such a delighful man and Ms. Sue is the sweetiest person alive. My sincere sympathy to all the family. Mr. Joe will be dearly missed.

I started working for BREMCO in May of 1978 and one of the weekly dinner locations was Cobb's BBQ. I prefer the taste and friendly atmosphere. I would take my kids to eat there whenever we could and never had a complaint. We will surely miss him as will a great many.

I can't remember how old I was when I had my first taste of Cobb's. But I do remember every time I stayed home sick from school my mom would always bring me Cobb's for lunch, it had the magic touch to make me feel so much better I could go outside and play :)Since then I have moved to Arizona but I always make sure to visit Cobb's every time I come in town; otherwise I refuse to leave. In my last trip, April 2009, my son was able to have his first taste of Cobb's and met Joe. I asked Joe when he was going to expand to Phoenix so I didn't miss the Cobb's taste so much. He told me it was the only way to make sure I visited him. And he was right, I could never say no to a Cobb's sandwich!!!

He will be missed and I am sorry that the whole world was not able to meet him. He was a truely wonderful man and always made a point to ask my parents how I am doing and how my son is!!

May God be with your family during this time and ya'll are in mine! God bless!!

**Now I can't wait to get to heaven where I know I see him again and eat good for eternity!!!**

Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the Cobb family and many friends. Mr. Cobb was the type of individual who touched many lives and will be dearly missed. Our world is a better place because of his faithfulness to our Lord and Savior. I was first hooked on Cobb’s BBQ and Mr. Cobb in the early 60s. He always knew what to say to make one feel at home. When returning to Bossier for a visit I would always drop in and rekindle many old fond memories. I knew I always had a home at Cobbs.

I worked for Joe and Sue many years ago. Every time I am in Bossier City I stop in for the Best BBQ in the world, and the Best hospitality of any restaurant anywhere. He was a great mentor and a wonderful Husband and Father. Not many on this earth have as many friends or have touched as many people as Joe Cobb. I will miss him but not the memories. Mrs. Cobb, Lisa and Vickie I am truly sorry for your loss.

January 18, 2010

Sue and family,
I will surely miss Joe when I go to eat a chopped beef sandwich. My grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Mulkey were friends with the Cobb's and we have been going there since I was a small child. Anytime I would go in the restaurant Joe would always have something honorable to say about my grandfather, and I appreciated that because he was an honorable man just as Joe was. The world is a better place because of men like Joe Cobb. He will be deeply missed.

Mrs.Cobb,Vicki and Lisa so sorry to hear of Joe going home with Jesus. I can relate to your loss. I have known the Cobb family all my life.Anytime I would hear the name Cobb I always thought about my family being on the six row middle section and the Cobbs behind us. That was our spot each Sunday Morning at First Baptist Church. Mr. Cobb went home to Jesus the same day my mom Ouida Morrison did 18yrs ago. Joe will be missed so much in the city of Bossier. My prayers are with you all I know God will be with you to help you through it all.

I went to school with Mr. Cobb's daughter, Vicki, in the 2nd and 3rd grades. (I moved away after that, to Springhill, and now live in Washington State.) I remember her as being very nice and intelligent (and I saw during my last visit to Louisiana that she is now a doctor; no surprise). I only met Mr. Cobb once, and he was very nice. And I enjoyed his barbeque very much on several occassions. I didn't know him or Vicki really well, but they seemed to be wonderful people, and I am very sorry for the family's loss. Mr. Dixie Wells, Longview, Washington.

January 16, 2010

To say Joe will be missed is an understatement. The years that my family and I have gone into Cobbs will always be the greatest of memories. He loved to tell me that my daddy took all the sand out of the Red River and tease my sister about being Little Miss Sunbeam and how she would swing round and round the pole in the middle of Cobb's. He never forgot anyone. When I had friends come for a visit, Cobb's was always on my list of places to take them. I remember when he was called an Icon in the paper and he would ask everyone what an Icon was. I could go on and on but I will just say Thanks for the Memories. Ms. Sue and family, You are in my thoughts and my prayers. Mr. Joe will be greatly missed. He use to tease me that my parents brought me to Cobbs in my baby seat, many many years ago and I have literally grown up on Cobbs BBQ. He always had a warm welcome for everyone and knew you and your family members by name. Never failed to ask about them. He is definitely in the Arms of Jesus now!! May God Surround you with His Love and Comfort.

Dear Sue and Family:

Many years ago, as a boy, my father, Chevis Webb inroduced me to Joe, while we were eating at the restaurant; at that time, I knew that Daddy would only associate with the best and those that were moral and God-fearing.

It was an absolute honor to have worked
for you and your husband some 25 years ago. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

God has truly received his own!

Miss Sue, My sisters and I were raised on Cobb's BBQ as were 99% of the kids in B.C. After we grew up and moved to different locations, our "sisters reunion" included lunch at Cobbs the first day home. "The girls" met a few months ago and you were so sweet to sit and visit with us just like old times. Mr. Joe was making his usual rounds from table to table laughing and cutting up as always. Cobbs will always be "the first stop" on our reunion trips until each of us has gone home, too. Please know that you are in our hearts and prayers and we look forward to seeing you at our next reunion.

I met Mr.Cobb, when I was six years old, and I must say, that he really never changed too much over the years, just a nice, considerate fellow, with a great family, that always enjoyed life. Mr. Cobb, never forgot a customer, and was always a true gentlemen. You hear the expression all the time, that when we lose someone we care about, that their going to be truly missed, well, those words are true, when it comes to Mr.Cobb.I'll miss him, and I'm sure all of Bossier City will too.

January 14, 2010

Ms Sue,
Please accept my love and prayers at this time of such loss of dear Joe. There was never a time that I came in the COBBS that Mr. Joe didn't ask me "If I knew that my dad was a yankee????" as always the traditional answer was yes and he would immediately say "Your dad is such a yankee that his wife taught him how to fish". That was his favorite line to myself and my sisters.
I see all continuing to go by our special barbecue place and turning our conversations to "What a great Guy Joe was" and the memories we have all had the pleasure with Joe, you and your extended family.
I went today and got my hoagie....for Joe...and realized he was right..my dad is a "yankee".
Take care of yourself,
Much love and many prayers of peace and, strength during this time.

Mrs. Sue, and Family~
What a terrible loss! Blake, Bailey and I were just talking the other day about how when they were little and we would come by to eat, (at least a couple of times a week!!) how Mr. Cobb would always give them a box of straws to take home with them! They loved it then and still to this day love to go to Cobb's!!! They were so sad to hear of his passing. All three of our children, Blake, Bailey and Katie Brooke have eaten at Cobb's since they were babies!! Mr. Cobb always knew them by name and would treat each of them like his own grandchildren! He knew what we all wanted before we could order. Blake was in around Christmas time, and Mr. Cobb was asking him then about his next boxing match and when he was going to bring him a signed picture. He will truly be missed by so many. What a perfect example of a loving man in all aspects of his life.
May the many loving memories that you have and that others continue to share with you as time goes on, bring you comfort and peace.
He will be missed by all.
May God hold you in his loving embrace.

mrs cobb,
I am so sorry for your loss. As you know I have been visiting Cobbs BBQ every since I was a kid trying to look over the counter and watch as Mr. Cobb made the sandwiches my dad ordered for us. I loved talking with Mr. Cobb and looking at the new vacation photos he would place on the walls. I know he loved playing jokes on everybody, so I would give him a hard time about the air or heat in the place.

I know at the end it was hard listening to him ask "who are you" or say "do i know you". i know now he is not hurting anymore and is in heaven with my father just talking and joking around with him as usual. Again Im so sorry for your loss and rest assured I will stop by and see how you are doing from time to time.

To Sue and all of Joe Cobb's family,
Joe was a giant of a man, literally and figuratively. When you walked into Joe Cobb's BBQ in Bossier City you were welcomed as family, coming home for a meal. Joe questioned and cajoled and teased everyone, just as if they were his own children. My family and I enjoyed so many good times there. My children, spread across the country from Alabama to California, were saddened to learn of his death, as was I in New York City. The world is a lesser place without Joe Cobb, but with Joe and his brothers united in heaven, we all know that God and St. Peter are eating well now and enjoying his company. He will be missed dearly by all of us here. Please accept my sincere condolences and hopes that you will be comforted by the love and happy memories from those whom Joe touched!

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Joe Kenneth Cobb our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Joe. And to Joe it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II and the Korean War while serving first in the U.S. Army and then in the U.S. Merchant Marines. Joe, we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,341 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Joe’s family and loved ones.

I will always remember Mr. Cobb, behind the counter at his Bar-B-Que Rest.,& I will always remember the years that my Dad had to lift me up, so I could watch Mr. Cobb put our food together, to all of the times since, when I can watch without any assistance=) Although, I don't live in the area anymore, everytime I come back in town, I find my car heading straight to Cobb's for a very familiar Hot-Link sandwich, a chopped beef sand, all with a side of Potato Salad=), and everything always included a smile from Mr.Cobb & always Ms. Sue at the register=) I will Miss seeing Him, next time I come to town=( Rest in Peace Mr. Cobb!!!!

Joe and Sue I saw at Dewey's service and how it filled my heart with a flood of great memories. I cannot separate the two of you because you were inseparable in life. When I first came to Benton in the late 60's, the Burchetts had a tradition of Cobb's bar-b-que already establihed on a Saturday basis. That tradition carried over into our generation and family. In Dewey's last months, he craved bar-b-que, but he would tell me that it must be from Cobb's. We would have had it 6 times a week, if I had not balked...three times a week I thought was being generous.
You are so much a part of so many generations. You gave good food, hospitality flavored with rich humor and serious discussion, and caring. What better friendships can one hope to have! Thank you Joe and thank you Sue. I love you both dearly. Pat Burchett
