Kay Kline Obituary

Kay Kline OIL CITY, LA - Kay Tuggle Kline passed away peacefully on March 26, 2010. After a lengthy illness, the angels came and attended her as she passed from her beloved Driftwood Castle on Caddo Lake to her heavenly home.

Born in Shreveport on February 26, 1937, Kay lived life to the fullest. She was a florist, a painter, loved to fish, and accomplished much in her relatively short sojourn here. Even before graduating from CE Byrd High School, she became the youngest licensed florist in Louisiana at that time at the age of 15. She would eventually use her significant artistic, entrepreneurial and leadership skills to found and own The Posey Mart, a successful flower shop that served the greater Shreveport area until 1976 when Kay and her family moved to Houston.

In every place Kay lived, she made many friends and impacted her community. Her 'can-do' attitude and her caring heart made her a beloved part of the churches and organizations she served and led. Over the years Kay served as President of The North Highlands Women's Club, President of the Shreveport Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, and was a founding member of the Barnwell Arts Center. After Kay and husband Al returned to Caddo Lake in 1988, she became an officer in the Louisiana Greater Caddo Lake Association. She also served in leadership roles at Blanchard Methodist Church, North Highlands Methodist Church, and Oil City Methodist Church, among others. She served as an officer during their 20 year membership in the Amigos Dance Club here in Shreveport, and served as an officer in the Oil City Hobby Club.

Kay is preceded in death by son Kenneth R. Kline, mother Eva Carter Tuggle, father Edward H. Tuggle, and sister Jean Tuggle Laster.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years Al Kline, daughter Susan Kline Welch and husband Dennis, daughter in law Lisa Kline Johnson and husband Greg; grandchildren Kandy Kline Mathis and husband Ben, Jason Kline and wife Heather, James Kline and wife Hilary, and Daniel and Dylan Welch; great grandchildren Kenley and Nate Mathis, and Alexis Willy, and Matthew Welch. She is also survived by brother Edward C. Tuggle, sister Edwina Lawton Friday, and a host of other family and friends.

Kay's lifetime of giving continues as she has donated her body to science at LSU Health Sciences Center.

The family would like to thank: the Doctors and staff at Willis-Knighton North; Dr. Randy Bryn, Kristy, Bonnie and staff; home care-givers Lisa Hawks, Jo Hensley, Linda King, Paula, and Marilyn; The EMT team; and numerous friends and neighbors for their support.

A celebration of Kay's life will be held Saturday morning, April 3rd at 10:30 AM at The Barnwell Arts Center, 601 Clyde Fant Pkwy., Shreveport, LA 71101 (www.BarnwellCenter.com )

In lieu of flowers, the Kline family requests donations to Friends of the 'The Barnwell' at the above address.

Buddy,

In my mind's eye I have written a book about Kay's youth and mine. We were children together and then young married folk. Life took us different ways, but I carried the memory of this extremely talented woman.

In the last several years when I came to Louisiana, I tried always to visit Kay and you, Buddy. While Kay was her wonderful, rambunctious self, you, Buddy, always managed to show me a little history of the home you and she built together.

I can't think of Kay's wonderful spirit silenced by death. No-she's somewhere in an electric blue pantsuit, telling God where the roses should go so they will better reflect the faces of the beautiful people she left behind. THey are her legacy and her assurance that she can never die as long as they carry part of her with them.

Kay was a very special kind of person. She was a true friend and the first to visit or call if you were sick. She always gave her all. I feel privileged to have known her and call her my friend. My condolence to her family. She is in a better place where there is no pain or suffering. Kathy Jackson

I had not seen Mrs. Kline in a few years but she was a very special person and a friend of my Moms. I know she will be missed but know she is reunited with her family and friends in heaven. Susan and Mr. Kline and rest of family, I want you to know you will be in my prayers in your time of sorrow.....and that there will come a time where you will be able to fully enjoy the memories.

To Kay's Family, I'm so sorry to learn of Kay's pasing. She was a unique person. I'll always remember the days at Posy Mart, when she trained me to be a florist, which started a 25 year career of being a florist. With heartfelt love and sympathy, Gracie Riggs
