Mary Katherine Joyce

SHREVEPORT, LA - Memorial services for Mary Katherine Joyce,18, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Brown Chapel on the Centenary College campus. Officiating will be Dr. Donald A. Webb. Interment will be a private service at Forest Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2010 at Osborn Funeral Home.

Mary Katherine passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010. She was a native of Shreveport, LA and a resident of the world for 18 years. She attended Southfield School from Pre-K thru 8th grade. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Caddo Magnet High School in May 2009. In a small but significant coup she was also named "Best Dressed". Upon graduation she traveled throughout Europe with her family and friends, then attended the Sorbonne in Paris in the fall. A seasoned traveler since birth, the diminutive Mary Katherine explored Paris with her own brand of enthusiasm and verve. She made it her town. Many adventures ensued with frequent visits from loved ones. Small but fierce, kind and funny she was devoted to her friends and family. Her time may have been brief, but it was full and she will be remembered.

She is survived by her parents, William Edward Joyce and Elizabeth Baucum Joyce; her brother, Jackson Edward Joyce; lifelong best friend, Eleanor Marie Kinsey; aunts & uncles: Melissa Welbourne, Cecile Jernigan, Trey & Mary Baucum, Katie & Robert Dunkelman and Robert Watkins Baucum; maternal grandparents, Dr. Ralph W. Baucum Jr. (deceased) and Marilynn Watkins Baucum; paternal grandparents, George Edward Joyce (deceased) and Mary Katherine Hargrove Joyce (deceased) Honorary grandmother Ruthie May Casey.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Norman Kinsey, William Andrew Dunkelman, Patrick Amiss Baucum, Ian Reese Mitchel, Jared Evan Takach and Sterling Matthew Cameron Parsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Amiss Dunkelman, Elliot Anderson Chavanne, James McGlenn Cowles and Andrew Trowbridge Emery.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Emma McCarty, Dr. Dhwan, Dr. Anil Nanda and the wonderful team at St. Judes Children Hospital. OSBORNFUNERALHOME.NET

I was born in February 2007, and I didn't know her. I truly hope Mary Katherine is thriving where ever she is now.
As a lithe, 5'5", 16 y/o girl, it's inspiring to see protagonists like MK and Jack Frost. I wish Mary Katherine was able to see the character and films she inspired.

Mary Katherine: I didn't know you personally but knew from your dad's books how in love your family was with you and your brother. My son, Blake has grown up with you through the wonders of your dad's books. Shine on up in the heavens for all of the world to keep on seeing.

My sister and I went to Agnew with your dad through sixth grade. That group of kids will always be special to us although we have grown apart and onward. Our children, our loves, our hearts, OUR LIVES now -- I know you were truly loved and truly loved back many!

I am so sorry for your loss -I have thought of you everyday since my mom sent the news from Shreveport. You are in my thoughts and prayers each day.

Dear William and family,
Years ago I was the Children's Manager and Book Buyer for Barron's Books in Longview, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. I have followed your entire book to film career and have had the pleasure of doing book signings for you at the stores. You can't imagine how sad I am to hear of the loss of your daughter. My two girls, now 20 and 16 grew up with you and the wonderful world of William Joyce. I found out about this as one of the mother's I use to help select books to purchase back at Barron's became a big fan of your books too. Her boys loved your books so when she read of your loss, she contacted me immediately.
If there is anything I can do for you or your family I would do it. I now own Beauty and the Book, the Hair Salon/Book Store in Jefferson, Texas and run the largest "meeting and discussing" book club in the world, The Pulpwood Queens and Timber Guys. In fact, I dedicated my first book to another little boy who I use to help select books, many yours, who took his own life at sixteen in Longview. I love children so much my heart breaks for you. Just know that God will get you through this and you are beloved among children and adults as well.
God Bless You and Keep You and my Prayers are with you now and forever!
Truly,
Kathy L. Patrick

Dear Elizabeth, Bill and Jack,
I'm terribly heartbroken for you all. I'll always remember Andi and Mary Katherine sitting in their highchairs squishing cake between their fingers on their first birthdays. I know how much you love her and I've always admired your acceptance and support of her wishes and ideas. You have been great neighbors and if we can help in any way we will always be there for you. This is so sad and really hits close to home for all of us. Anil was Cade's doctor also and he is so good and kind.
