I have many fond memories of Dorothy. She saw very kind and generous to my family. My mother was so proud of her niece, "The Doctor." Dorothy helped my mother when she was ill. When I was a young man, she was able to diagnosis an illness of mine when other doctors could not. My fondest memory was a visit she made to us in Marshall when I was 16. She allowed me to drive her brand-new white Ford Thunderbird convertible, and I have never forgotten the thrill. She was a real lady, and I will always have fond memories of her.

Dr. Mack treated me and my three brothers when we were children. As a young child I was never afraid of going to the doctor because Dr. Mack, as well as her brother Dr. Donald Mack, were so tender. They filled my mother with confidence and treated all little children with such grace and tender respect. While I have not seen her in forty years, I still remember her gentle firm friendly voice and kind way. I hope her family is comforted in some small way by knowing of the esteem in which she is held.

Dr Strain was a wonderful woman. I remember her smile and constant concern for her family and friends. She lived her life in the service of others and in some way everyone who knew her was better for that. I will miss this extraordinary lady. God truly gave us all an angel. God bless the family.

Dr. Dorothy was my sons, Eric and Kyle Hartford's pediatrician and she was wonderful. We came to use Donald, her brother eventually and then sometimes Gene. What a wonderful caring group and all such fine doctors. I will never forget how kind Dr. Dorothy was when I would ask the stupidest questions. She was always patient and caring plus wold explain things in real people language. She will be greatly missed.

By the end of this day, Dr. Dorothy's Guest Book will be filled with sentiments from many, many patients' parents. Unfortunately, I was one of those parents, who spent a great deal of time in her office with our son and (particularly) our daughter. Dr. Dorothy was not only a caregiver, she was a source of strength and knowledge. She kept me going, when I had no idea and very little stamina to proceed as we dealt with our daughter's health issues. She was a wonderful physician, a fine person....and a genuine lady. We loved you, Dr. Dorothy.

What an AWESOME Pediatrician and a loving one for my children to have had. I'll never forget that first visit I had with her,she picked my baby up into her arms and held him as if he were her own,the love, care and concern I saw in her was one I will always remember. May God put his loving arms around you Dr Strain, Dr. Donald and all of the Family, she will be greatly missed.

The stories about Dorothy and my mom are enlightening to me and she is very very much the lady. My mom has lost her best friend and it breaks my heart for her, but having known Dorothy over the years not only as a family friend, but as my children's pediatrician was a great honor for me. I will miss hearing about the stories and their great times together, but Dorothy left a mark on many people and there is no one like her. Dr. Thomas, Dr. Donald, Gladys and Mary Frances your special angel is watching over you. May God bless and keep you in his arms. I am writing this for my mother Marion Frost.

What a blessing it was to have known this amazing woman. I was born in 1958 with Asthma and lung conditions. Dr. Dorothy diagnosed me and stayed up many nights with my parents Kay & Al Kline helping keep me alive, they considered her a true friend. When my first son came for a visit with my parents in 1986 at 22 mo.old, she diagnosed him with Asthma and pneumonia. She called me herself in Houston to tell me his condition and assure me he'd be fine until my husband and I could get to the hospital (just the sound of her voice immediately calmed me).
This past week I told of a funny story she and I had when I was 15 yrs old. I went in for my annual physical, she asked me if I "smoked", to which I insisted NO. She replied that it was a good thing because with lungs like mine, I'd be gone in 6 months....as quickly as a guilty teenager could go I deposited the stale Virginia Slims in the nearest trash can and never touched a cigerette again. I found out almost 20 yrs. later, that after I left her office that day, she called my Mom and asked if she knew I was smoking....she figued it since my older cousin was in that summer and I'd probably experimented (surely I didn't inhale, my asthma was still very active), Dr. Dorothy said, "well she came in here smelling like a smokestack and you weren't with her, so I thought I'd nip in the bud"! I called her Aunt Dorothy not Dr. and in my southern upbringing I'm sure I felt like she was family.
My family sends our love and prayers to all her family, we were all so blessed to have know her and richer for having her in our lives.

With loving thoughts,
Susan Kline Welch

Dr. Dorothy was pediatrician to my sisters, brother, and me. And to my children, as well. She was my first role model as a child. I wanted to be her!
But, there was only one Dr. Dorothy Mack. Advocate to all children she came in contact with, friend and comforter to worried and bereived parents, as well as, rejoicer with parents whose children got well.
Her calm and pragmatic manner made those who needed her feel all would be well. When she stepped into a room, parents and kids, alike, breathed a sigh of relief, "Dr. Dorothy is here."
She always remebered you and your family, no matter the number of years that had passed since she last spoke with you. And if she did not, you were never aware of it. She was gracious and had a quiet charm that was natural and never forced..and the gentlest touch to a child when examining or performing clinically necessary tasks.
We will miss you Dr. Dorothy. You have touched many, many lives and you will never be forgotten by those who had the privelege to be your patients, friends, and family.
God bless your family at this time of loss.

Dr. Dorothy was a rare find. She will always have a special place in the hearts of our family. She showed personal concern and visited our home when my sister passed. I have spent many hours with her and her caring staff. I cherish my memories of her.

After being away from Shreveport for 30 years, I saw Dr. Mack and Dr. Strain at the drugstore. She immediately remembered me and my family. I had no idea she was ill and will always treasure that chance encounter. She and Dr. Donald took care of my 4 children and she was especially adored by one of my daughters. What a gift she has been to the many thousands whose lives she touched. Thank you Dr. Dorothy! You will be greatly missed and long remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, especially Dr. Donald and Dr. Strain. Sally Fox

Dr Mack made a big difference in our lives 30 years ago when she diagnosed and solved a problem with our one year old son, a problem that two others had not been able to diagnose over six months. It was a God-send at the time and we were immensely thankful for her skillful care. Our hearts go out to the family. A wonderful life, well lived.

Dr. Dorothy Mack was very special to my family. She was my pediatrician for many years and she detected a heart condition that sent me to New Orleans for further test. I was 4 years old at the time. I am now 51. My parents are deceased now, but I know if they were here, they would be saddened by your loss, as I am.

Keeping you in my prayers~

Sincerely,
