Karen Vires Obituary

DOYLINE, LA - As a Registered Nurse for almost 50 years, Karen dedicated her time to taking care of those in need. She used her gift of nursing in serving with the Red Cross Disaster Relief as well as Jordan's Crossing Hospice. Karen was also a member of Christ the King Church for many years where she served the church diligently. She had a love for the outdoors which reflected in her hobbies: horseback riding, golfing and swimming.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Della Bouchey and sister, Nona Ouderkirk.
Karen is survived by her husband Robert Vires; son, Rob Vires, Jr. and wife Monica; granddaughters, Taylor and Madison Vires; sister, Jean Basgall and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Karen Vires on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church. Father Rothell Price will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Vigil service will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the rosary to follow.
Pallbearers will be Jim McCalister, Roy Miciotto, Calvin Joyner, Rick Upton, Amos Meshell and Joe Maggio.
Memorials may be made in Karen's honor to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK.

Karen was more than a member at Fitness Lady, she was a shining example of someone who pushed to enjoy her life in joy and in sorrow and always with a smile as big as any I have ever seen. Her positive attitude and personality while swimming in the pool was contagious and she said she always felt "Free" in the water. Bob and Rob, Aunt Karen was such a special part of our family. She spent her life loving, caring and giving and I know she will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Dear Vires Family, I was so sorry to hear about Karen passing away. When I taught nursing at Northwestern State University, Karen would always do such a good job of talking to my nursing students about disaster nursing. We were also bridge friends. May God bless her for all she did for others. May God bless all the Vires family with peace and comfort. You all are and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
