James Caldwell Obituary

JAMES D. CALDWELL

James D. Caldwell passed away peacefully at the age of 68 in his home, surrounded by his family on August 7, 2015. James was born on September 9, 1946, in Peoria, Illinois, and spent his youth in Jonesboro and Baton Rouge, LA.

Jim graduated from Louisiana Tech University. He obtained his Degree of Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University in December of 1976. He practiced law in Baton Rouge, Jonesboro, and Shreveport, LA.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, David Tralve Caldwell and Charlotte Dettor. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 34 years, Debbie; son, Jonathan Caldwell; daughter Christy Wilson and husband, Jonathan; and granddaughter, Caroline Wilson, all of Shreveport. He is also survived by his four brothers Randall Caldwell, Steven (Rueben) Caldwell, David Caldwell and Joseph Dettor; and step-mother and friend, Betty Caldwell.

Jim was a dedicated attorney, who was defined by a reputation for diligence and perseverance in the pursuit of justice for all his clients. He also served his profession by continuing to educate colleagues through seminars. In his free time, he was the quintessential handyman and ultimate LSU Tiger fan, attending as many LSU home football games as possible, including the 2004 National Championship game in New Orleans, LA.

Jim loved his Lord and his family with all his heart. It was his wish to be cremated. A celebration of his life to honor his memory will be held at the Lane Chapel, Noel Methodist Church, 520 Herndon Street, at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Noel Methodist Church, St. Joseph's Indian School (stjo.org/may), Dallas Pug Rescue, or the charity of your choice.

I'm very sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. When we were growing up on Hudson Avenue in Jonesboro he was one of my best friends. It was a sad day in my young life when the Caldwells moved away. All of us boys learned what hard work was when we raised watermelons and other crops on his grand dad's farm in Saline one summer. I have never forgotten it. You have my condolences for your loss.

As a fellow attorney with Frank Carroll I am also saddened to hear of Jim's death. He was a great attorney who represented his clients well while at the same time a true professional in his dealings with the opposition. The law community along with myself will miss him.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Caldwell family during this difficult time.
